NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Facing off against its second nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the Boston University women's tennis team fell at No. 41 Yale, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center. Senior Yana Sadovskaya earned the lone point for the Terriers with a singles victory, as they dropped to 9-4.
The Bulldogs, who improve to 9-4, swept the doubles matches and then won all three three-set contests en route to the victory. BU is now 3-2 against Ivy League schools this season.
In singles, reigning America East player of the week Stefanie Nunic looked for her second win against a ranked player but fell short in her rally, falling 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, to No. 116 Janet Kim in the top match of the day. The Terriers won a set in the No. 2 and 3 contests but could not pull out the victories, as Francine Whu lost to Jessie Rhee, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and Petra Santini dropped a 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 decision to Victoria Brook.
Sadovskaya only dropped five games at No. 6 to knock off Lilian Nguyen, 6-1, 6-4, to put BU on the board.
During doubles action, Elizabeth Corrao and Santini hung tough with Kim and Rhee at No. 2 but were unable to help the Terriers avoid the sweep, losing 8-6, as Yale won all three contests.
BU will next visit No. 55 Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va., for a Saturday (March 28) match set to begin at 12 p.m.
