BOSTON - Highlighted by seven home games at Nickerson Field and a road matchup against 2010 NCAA tournament participant Notre Dame, head coach Liz Robertshaw of the six-time defending America East champion Boston University lacrosse team has announced the squad's 2011 schedule.
"We've put together a very challenging non-conference schedule against teams consistently ranked in the top 20," said Robertshaw, who will enter her fifth season as the Terriers' head coach in 2011. "In addition to games against Notre Dame, Denver and William & Mary, playing against our regional rivals - Dartmouth, Yale, UMass and Boston College - always produce exciting contests and will prepare us for the highly-competitive America East."
For the eighth straight year, the Terriers will open their season against in-state rival Massachusetts on Feb. 25. BU will then hit the road to face Brown on March 1 and William & Mary on March 5.
The Terriers will return to Nickerson Field for matchups against Dartmouth and George Mason, Robertshaw's alma mater, on March 9 and 12, respectively.
BU will then head west as it plays road contests at Notre Dame (March 15) and Denver (March 19). The road trip will continue against Yale on March 23.
America East competition will begin on March 26 when Binghamton visits Nickerson Field. The Terriers will play two more conference matchups, hosting UMBC (April 2) and visiting New Hampshire (April 6), before making the trip down Commonwealth Avenue to face Boston College on April 13.
The Terriers will resume conference play with a home contest against Albany on April 16 and welcome Harvard on April 20 for a non-conference game. BU's regular season will conclude with America East road matchups at Stony Brook and Vermont on April 23 and 30, respectively.
The top four seeds from the seven-team league will qualify for the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship, to be held at the site of the highest seed on May 5 and 7.
The Terriers return 15 letter winners from a squad that went 11-9 (5-1 AE) in 2010 en route to their sixth straight and ninth overall conference championship. BU earned the program's eighth berth in the NCAA tournament, where it dropped a hard-fought match to Penn.
