
Terriers Host Yale Wednesday at Case

BOSTON - The Boston University women’s basketball team (0-1) will host Ivy League foe Yale (1-0) on Wednesday night at Case Gym as it looks to bounce back from a season-opening loss to Boston College.
THE TERRIERS: BU is looking to rebound from a 19-point season-opening loss to crosstown rival Boston College last Friday evening. Junior guard Alex Young and sophomore Mo Moran combined to score 45 of the Terriers 61 points in the contest, while Young was just three points shy of a career high as she poured in 30 points on 11-for-20 shooting. She matched a career high with five treys and brought down five rebounds. Senior Kerry Cashman led the Terriers with seven rebounds, followed closely behind by junior Caroline Stewart with six boards.
BU VS. YALE: In a series that dates back to 1981, the Terriers have won 81.2 percent of their games against Ivy League foe Yale. To open the rivalry, the Terriers won eight straight throughout the 1980s, before taking a 12-year break from the series. In 2000, BU renewed the rivalry, but fell to the Bulldogs, 81-60, on Nov. 18, 2000. One year later, the Terriers jumpstarted a new winning streak against Yale with a 76-67 victory in Yale in 2005. After another four-year break, BU took a 53-41 win, before succumbing to the Bulldogs, 61-57, last season.
BU VS. THE IVY LEAGUE: The Terriers own a 46-26 (.639) advantage over Ivy League opponents all-time with its two closest rivals with Brown (10-6) and Harvard (13-12).

LAST TIME OUT VS. YALE (DEC. 9, 2009): Mo Moran scored 18 points - 14 in the second half alone – and Alex Young netted 11; however, the women’s basketball team fell, 61-57, on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009. It was a tightly contested match-up with both teams remaining within either one or two possessions for the majority of the game and BU took an eight-point lead with seven minutes remaining in the contest. However, a resilient Yale side chipped away at the deficit and reclaimed the lead with less than two minutes remaining to hold on for the slim four-point victory.
Moran led the way with 18 points on 4-for-10 shooting and a career-high nine made free throws. She also tied Caroline Stewart with a team-high seven boards. Chantell Alford also reached double figures with 10 points to go along with four steals. Yale made it to the free throw line a total of 33 times, and it accounted for 21 of its points, while it also shot 36 percent for the game from the field. BU shot 38 percent from the field and 68 percent from the charity stripe.

3-POINT SCORING STREAK REACHES 200: The Terriers have successfully hit at least one 3-point attempt in each of the past 226 games, a streak that spans over eight seasons. The last time BU went a game without hitting a trey was on Feb. 8, 2003 against Binghamton. Within that streak, the Terriers have hit 33.6 percent (1,427-4,244) of their 3-point attempts.
