BROOKLYN, N.Y. - Over the Thanksgiving break, the Boston University women's basketball team (1-3) will take part in the Courtyard LaGuardia Turkey Classic in Brooklyn, N.Y. BU will face Colgate on Friday (Nov. 26) at 4 p.m. before taking on either McNeese State or host-school LIU on Saturday (Nov. 27).
THE TERRIERS: The Terriers are looking to rebound from back-to-back losses to No. 17 Texas and crosstown rival Harvard.
On the season, Young has been unstoppable from the field as she averages 18.5 ppg - aided by a 30-point performance in the season opener vs. Boston College and followed up by 17,16, and 11 points respectively. Cashman is close to averaging a double-double for the season with 9.0 ppg and 9.3 rpg. Meanwhile, sophomore point guard Mo Moran is also averaging 9.0 ppg with a team-high 16 assists.
BU VS. COLGATE: BU leads the series, 4-1, but it has not faced Colgate since the 1999-2000 season. BU won the first two meetings before suffering its first loss on Feb. 17, 1990. In 1993 and 1999 BU won back-to-back games over the Raiders.
BU VS. LONG ISLAND: BU has won all three meetings with LIU in a series that dates back to 1994. In the winter of 1994, the two squads commenced the series with a 69-57 BU victory. The teams would not face off again for another 10 years in an 83-66 BU victory. The last time they squared off was on Dec. 3, 2005 - another victory for BU, 72-45.
LAST TIME OUT VS. LONG ISLAND (DEC. 3, 2005): Behind a game-high 13 points from junior Katie Meinhardt and 12 more from freshman Jesyka Burks-Wiley, the Boston University women's basketball team cruised to a 72-45 victory over Long Island at Case Gym on Saturday afternoon. The win secured the Terriers' first perfect home record against non-conference opponents since the 1988-89 campaign. Winner of four straight, BU now sits at 4-1 on the season.
In all, 10 BU players found their way into the scorebook, and six of them tallied eight points or more. Sophomore Kasey Devine continued her strong play of late, recording nine points and a game-best eight rebounds, while fellow sophomores Corinne Jean and Cheri Raffo, along with senior co-captain Rachel Vanderwal, each contributed eight points. Raffo added a game-high four assists.
The Blackbirds, who dropped their fourth straight and fell to 1-5 with the loss, were paced by senior Amber Wirth and sophomore Mikaelar Whippy, who each registered 12 points. Wirth contributed a game-high seven rebounds.
NEXT UP: BU will take on Rhode Island in Kingston, R.I., on Wednesday, Dec. 1, before hosting Big East foe St. John's at Case Gym on Saturday, Dec. 4.

ALFORD NEARING 500 CAREER POINTS: Sophomore Chantell Alford is a mere 18 points away from reaching her 500th career point. She would be the first Terrier to reach 500 points as a sophomore since Aly Hinton ('10) accomplished the feat during the 2007-08 season.
SEEING DOUBLE: Junior Alex Young has reached double-figure scoring in each of the last 14 games - dating back to Jan. 28, 2010.
YOUNG'S 3-POINT STREAK: Junior Alex Young has hit at least one 3-pointer in each of the last 12 games - dating back to Feb. 10, 2010. During that time, she has sunk 34 treys.
ROAD STRETCH: Seven of the Terriers next nine games will occur on the road to close out the non-conference schedule and the calendar year.
SEEING TRIPLE: Mo Moran's triple-double was just the seventh time in the program's history that a Terrier has recorded a triple-double. Overall only three players have accomplished the rare feat and no one had done it since 2006.
