CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Two Boston University sophomores picked up major awards and joined three teammates on the America East All-Conference Teams while three Terrier freshmen were named to the All-Rookie Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Jacinda McLeod was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Year and Nicole van Oosterom was selected as the Midfielder of the Year, as BU claimed two of the five individual awards. Both were named to the America East All-Conference First Team along with senior captain Allie Dolce. Dolce and McLeod were unanimous selections.
The Terriers had two representatives on the All-Conference Second Team with juniors Andrea Greene and Kate Murphy. Freshmen Madeleine Hackett and Ysi Schieb and redshirt freshman Kat Spring were three of the 11 members of the league's All-Rookie Team.
McLeod is just the second Terrier to be named the league's Defensive Player of the Year since the award was introduced in 2001, as Sarah Hudak took home the honor in 2007. van Oosterom is the second consecutive BU player to earn the top midfield accolade - now in its third year - with Dolce receiving it last season.
The 2009 America East Rookie of the Year, McLeod has been a leader on both ends of the field this season, headlining a defense that has allowed just 21 goals in 17 games while ranking second on the team in both points (16) and goals (6). This is the second straight year McLeod has been named to the All-Conference First Team.
van Oosterom has also built off a strong rookie year by contributing 12 points in the regular season off four goals and four assists. She has recorded a team-high 45 shots this season and two of her goals have been game-winners. Last year, van Oosterom was named to the All-Conference Second Team.
Dolce leads all current Terriers in career points (43) and assists (19) and earned the promotion to the first team after being named to the second team as a junior. This season, Dolce has registered 12 points on three goals - including a pair of game-winners - and six assists and all but one of her points has come in non-conference play.
Greene has had a successful first season with the Terriers, leading the squad in points (29) and goals (13). She has averaged a goal per game in conference play, including a hat trick against Fairfield, and is a two-time America East Player of the Week.
Murphy has joined McLeod to form an impressive duo amongst the team's backs. She has started 39 straight contests and recorded a defensive save in a win over Dartmouth last month.
Hackett has appeared in 15 contests, making a pair of starts, and earned her first collegiate goal against Dartmouth. Spring has seen her playing time increase throughout the season and picked up her first point as a Terrier in an early-season win at Providence. Schieb has played in 13 games, including all five conference tilts, and provided depth to the team's forwards.
The Terriers are the No. 3 seed for this weekend's America East Championship, to be held at top-seeded New Hampshire. BU will face second-seeded Albany in Friday's second semifinal at 5:30 p.m.
