Ten Terriers Earn All-Conference Honors
In search of its sixth consecutive America East title, the Boston University lacrosse team kicks off its postseason on Thursday against New Hampshire in the semifinal round of the 2010 America East Championship. Game time at Albany's Fallon Field is set for 3:30 p.m. The second-seeded Terriers (9-8, 5-1 AE) have won their last 12 meetings with the third-seeded Wildcats (10-6, 4-2 AE). WTBU will broadcast Thursday's game live at www.wtbusports.com.
BU and UNH will be meeting in the postseason for the ninth year in a row and Thursday's semifinal is a rematch of the last two America East title games. The BU/UNH winner will face the winner of the Albany/UMBC match-up, which takes place at 1 p.m., on Saturday (May 8) for the conference championship tilt, which will start at 1 p.m. Remarkably, BU has appeared in each of the last 11 America East title contests.
The Terriers are 20-11 in the all-time series against New Hampshire, which dates back to 1983. BU has faced UNH more than any other team and has never lost to its conference rival under head coach Liz Robertshaw (7-0), who is aiming to tie former BU mentor Liza (Shoemaker) Kelly's record for America East titles at four. The last UNH win over BU was in the 2004 America East title game and BU is 10-1 all-time against the Wildcats in the postseason.
Earlier this season, a 15-save performance by senior Rachel Klein helped the Terriers post a 10-4 victory over New Hampshire on April 7 in Boston.
The Wildcats boast a balanced offense this season with five players contributing over 20 goals. Sophomore JoJo Curro, the younger sister of BU All-American McKinley Curro, leads the team in goals with 28 and senior Shaunna Kaplan is the team's leading scorer with 50 points (24g, 26a). Kaplan, sophomore Kate Keagins and junior Allie Duclos were all named to the All-Conference First Team on Wednesday.
Sophomore Kate Gunts and freshman Kathleen O'Keefe have split netminding duties. Gunts is 5-1 with a team-best 8.66 goals-against average and .421 save percentage, while O'Keefe has gone 5-5.
The Terriers closed their regular season with a loss at Albany last Saturday in a game that decided the conference's regular-season champion, while the Wildcats are coming off a win at Vermont.
