
Furious Rally Propels Women's Basketball Past Providence, 65-62

BOSTON - Trailing by 18 early in the second half, the Boston University women's basketball team staged a furious rally to pull out a thrilling 65-62 come-from-behind victory over Providence on Friday night at Case Gymnasium. With the season-opening win, the Terriers earn their first win over a Big East squad since 2006 and snap a 12-game losing streak to the Friars that dated back to 1985.
Trailing by as many as 21 with four minutes left in the first half, the Terriers went into the locker room facing a 13-point deficit. Providence quickly pushed the lead to 18 (46-28), but then BU went on a 24-5 run capped by senior Alex Young's jumper at 6:50 to grab its first lead of the game.
With the score 58-58 with 2:42 remaining, the Terriers enticed Providence into two turnovers and went 5-of-5 at the charity stripe to earn the win. Named America East Player of the Game, Young tallied 15 of her game-high 24 points in the second half to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Juniors Mo Moran and Chantell Alford were the other two Terriers in double figures at 17 and 13, respectively. Alford also added seven assists, while Moran recorded five steals. Sophomore Rashidat Agboola proved tough under the basket with seven points and seven boards.
Teya Wright led Providence with a team-high 21 points and a game-high 11 rebounds but only went 3-of-10 in the second half after shooting a stifling 6-of-8 in the first. She also recorded four assists and two blocks. Rachel Barnes posted 13 points and seven rebounds, and Symone Roberts came off the bench to record six points, five assists and five steals.
Following the win, the Terriers will hit the road for UMass for a Sunday (Nov. 13) tilt at 2 p.m.
