BOSTON - Sophomore Danielle Etrasco of the Boston University lacrosse team earned Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Northeast All-Region First Team honors, while seniors Rachel Collins and Corcoran Downey were tabbed second-team members, the organization announced Thursday.
Etrasco received all-region honors for the first time, while Collins and Downey each earned all-region first-team recognition in 2010.
The America East Co-Player of the Year, Etrasco enjoyed a breakout sophomore campaign. The attacker ranks in the top 10 in the country in both goals (57) and goals per game (3.35), while her four game-winning markers tied for second in the conference and 2.41 draw controls per game tied for fourth.
In a must-win game on April 30, the America East All-Conference First Team member found the back of the net on all nine of her shot attempts to single-handedly outscore Vermont. The win propelled the Terriers to the conference tournament for the 13th straight year, and the nine goals are a 2011 NCAA Division I single-game high.
The Massapequa, N.Y., native, who appeared in the May 23 issue of Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd," also chipped in 41 draw controls, 16 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and eight assists.
An AE All-Conference First Team selection, Collins earned IWLCA second-team recognition following a solid 2011 campaign. The midfielder ranked second in the league with 2.18 ground balls per game and third with 3.12 draw controls per game. Collins' 53 draw controls also ranked third on the program's single-season list.
The Winchester, Mass., native registered career highs in both goals (16) and points (22), while adding 37 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers. She graduated with 134 draw controls, good for fourth on BU's all-time list.
Downey led the America East with 2.24 ground balls per game and ranked fifth with 1.24 caused turnover per game. The America East All-Conference First Team member recorded a career-high six goals, 38 ground balls and 26 draw controls.
An Ellicott City, Md., native, Downey capped her stellar four-year career with 78 caused turnovers, which tied for sixth on the program's career list.
