
Women's Basketball Defeats Binghamton, 60-48

BOSTON, Mass. - Three players scored in double-digits as the Boston University women’s basketball team defeated Binghamton, 60-48, Sunday afternoon at Case Gym. With the win, BU improves to 9-6 on the season and 2-0 in America East play.
Junior Mo Moran led the Terriers with 13 points and five assists while classmate Chantell Alford added 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and a pair of blocks. Sophomore Rashidat Agboola also netted 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Senior Caroline Stewart nearly posted a double-double with 10 rebounds and nine points.
Moran opened the game with a three-pointer to spark a 5-0 run by the Terriers. BU held the advantage until Andrea Holmes sunk a trey for the Bearcats to spark a 7-0 spurt for Binghamton. Mollie McKendrick sank a jumper for BU to end the run as the Terriers began to chip away at the Bearcats’ lead. BU brought the score within two points at three occasions before tying the game at 17-17 at the 9:01 mark with a layup from Alford.
The Bearcats regained a two-point lead before BU tied it again with a basket from Stewart. The score became knotted for the third time of the half at 21-21, but the Terriers closed out the period with an 8-2 run to take a 29-23 lead into halftime.
The Terriers took their first double-digit lead of the afternoon early in the second half after a jumper from Moran to bring the score to 33-23 in favor of BU. Offense was hard to come by in the following minutes, as the Terriers maintained their 10-point advantage, 38-28, at the first timeout of the half taken at 15:30.
Holmes converted a shot from beyond the arc to bring the Binghamton deficit down to single-digits and start a 10-2 run by the Bearcats, as BU’s lead was cut to two points, 40-38, with 11:23 to play. The Terriers used jumpers from Stewart and Agboola to extend their lead and BU gained a nine-point advantage following a three-pointer from Alex Young. The Bearcats responded with a three from Orla O’Reilly, as the teams headed to the final media timeout at 3:45 with BU holding on to a 53-47 lead.
With the Bearcats over the limit in fouls, the Terriers went to the line eight times in the final three minutes and converted on seven shots from the charity stripe, as BU went on to win, 60-48.
The Terriers shot 38.5 percent from the field for the afternoon while the Bearcats recorded a 33.3 percent of their opportunities. BU held the advantage on the glass, out-rebounding Binghamton, 39-37.
BU remains home for its next game and will welcome Maine to Case Gym on Wednesday, Jan. 11. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
