Terriers Travel to Rhode Island Tuesday Night

BOSTON - The Boston University women’s basketball team concludes its four-game road swing with a trip to Kingston, R.I., on Tuesday (Nov. 27) to face Rhode Island. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Tuesday’s game marks the 18th meeting between the two New England schools and the seventh straight season that the Terriers and Rams will battle. BU holds a 10-7 advantage in the all-time series and has won six of the last eight games by double-digits. Last season, the Terriers defeated the Rams, 71-44, on Nov. 26, 2011, at Case Gym.

The Terriers (3-3) are coming off a trip to Michigan over Thanksgiving Weekend. BU went 1-1 in the Great Lakes State with a 66-55 win at Eastern Michigan on Friday night before falling, 67-58, at Michigan on Saturday afternoon.

Eight different players scored for the Terriers against EMU with seniors Chantell Alford and Mo Moran leading the way with 16 points each. Junior Whitney Turner led the team with eight rebounds and a career-high five blocks. Senior Kristen Sims then set a career-high with 19 points, including five made 3-pointers, at Michigan while Alford and Moran chipped in 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Alford leads the team with 19.3 ppg and Moran is second on the squad with 11.5 ppg and a team-best 7.0 apg. Junior Rashidat Agboola is averaging 7.8 boards per game to lead the Terriers while Turner is second with 6.0 ppg and first with 2.5 bpg.

Rhode Island enters the game with a 2-3 record and has dropped its last two contests, including a 76-60 loss to Quinnipiac on Saturday. The Rams are led by Tayra Melendez and Emilie Cloutier, who average 11.0 and 10.4 ppg, respectively. Samantha Tabakman leads the team with 9.2 boards per game.

URI is shooting 37.4 percent from the field and struggling from beyond the arc with a 19.4 3-point field goal percentage. Rhode Island averages 54.4 ppg.

Head coach Cathy Inglese is her fourth year leading the Rams and is familiar with BU. The former Vermont and Boston College head coach owns a 6-8 all-time record against the Terriers.

The Terriers return to Case Gym for the first time in over two weeks on Saturday (Dec. 1), when they host St. John’s. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Saturday’s game is NCAA Take A Kid to the Game Day. Fans will receive a free kid’s ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket (offer valid at Box Office only). There will be a postgame Terrier Kid’s Conference where kids will have the opportunity to ask their favorite players questions along with Basketball BINGO during the game with great prizes being given out to fans.
