The Boston University women’s lacrosse team will look to clinch the America East regular-season title on Saturday when the Terriers host No. 19 Stony Brook at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
BU (8-5, 4-0 America East) can clinch its sixth regular-season crown with a win. The victory will also ensure that the Terriers host the America East Tournament, which will take place on May 3 and 5.
Last season, the Terriers earned a 12-3 win over Stony Brook (11-3, 3-0 America East). BU is 10-1 all-time against the Seawolves, with the lone loss coming in the 2007 season.
The Terriers are looking to rebound after an 18-9 loss against No. 20 Boston College on Wednesday. Freshman Mallory Collins led BU with three goals and now has 41 on the season. Collins also has six assists for 47 points. She is second behind junior Danielle Etrasco, who has 43 goals and 14 assists for 57 points. Senior Catie Tilton leads the Terriers with 32 helpers, while senior Molly Swain (21g, 2a) and junior Kristen Mogavero (22g, 3a) are the other two Terriers with at least 20 points.
Defensively, sophomore goalkeeper Christina Sheridan has started every game for BU. She leads the team with 37 ground balls and has an 11.71 goals-against average and a .402 save percentage. Sophomore Sydney Godett is next on the leaderboard with 20 ground balls while senior Annie Stookesberry has 19 to her credit. Stookesberry has also caused a team-best 12 turnovers.
Stony Brook has won six straight games entering Saturday’s showdown. The Seawolves sport two of the top scorers in the conference in juniors Claire Petersen and Demmianne Cook. Peterson has 31 goals and 44 assists for a conference-best 75 points. Cook leads the America East with 55 goals and is second in the conference with 61 points.
The Seawolves have had two goalkeepers share duties this season. Sophomore Frankie Caridi and junior Hannah Perruccio have each played in nine games this season. Caridi has a 7.25 goals-against average and a .448 save percentage, while Perruccio owns an 11.21 goals-against average and a .306 save percentage.
Following Saturday’s showdown, the Terriers will conclude their home schedule and celebrate Senior Day next Sunday (April 22) against Canisius. Opening draw is slated for 12 p.m.
