BOSTON - The Boston University women's lacrosse team heads to New Haven, Conn., for a midweek match-up at Yale on Wednesday (April 24). Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Yale's Reese Stadium.
The Terriers (5-8, 2-4 America East) are looking to snap a two-game skid when they travel to Yale. BU is 5-11 all-time against Yale with four of those wins coming under the leadership of head coach Liz Robertshaw, including a 13-8 victory at Nickerson Field last season.
BU is coming off an 18-11 loss at No. 10 Stony Brook on Sunday in what was the Terriers' last America East Conference game. With BU joining the Patriot League on July 1, the Terriers concluded their final America East season with a 2-4 league record, although two of the losses were by a single goal.
Five different players scored twice in BU's game against the Seawolves while senior Danielle Etrasco and junior Elizabeth Morse led the way with a pair of goals and an assist each. The duo is the only two players to register at least one point in every game this season. Etrasco leads BU with 48 goals and 15 assists on the season for 63 points to rank second in the nation with 3.69 goals per game while classmate Kristen Mogavero is next on the team with 32 points (31g, 1a). Morse is the only other Terrier with more than 20 points with 21 goals and seven assists on the year.
The Terriers have proven to be versatile off the draw control, as four players have won at least 20 draw controls. Etrasco leads the team with 32 draw controls followed by freshman Jill Horka (28), junior Sydney Godett (23) and freshman Sofia Robins (22). Etrasco is also one of three Terriers to have at least 15 caused turnovers, as she leads the team with 19. Horka is just behind her with 18 caused turnovers while junior Nell Burdis has 16.
Junior goalkeeper Christina Sheridan has played the majority of the minutes in between the pipes for the Terriers and owns a 12.34 goals against average along with a .428 save percentage. Her 8.92 saves per game ranks 10th in Division I.
Yale is the third Ivy League opponent the Terriers will face this season. BU fell to then-No. 13 Dartmouth, 12-7, on March 6, before completing a come-from-behind victory over Harvard, 12-11, on March 29. The Terriers will face two Ivy League opponents in a row, as BU's next game will be at Cornell on Saturday.
Yale is 7-6 on the season and 1-5 in Ivy League action following a 13-7 loss to No. 20 Cornell on Saturday. The Bulldogs are averaging 11.08 goals per game this year while allowing opponents to score 11.00 goals per contest.
Senior Devon Rhodes leads the Bulldogs with 45 points off of 31 goals and 14 assists while freshman Nicole Daniggelis ties her for the team lead with 31 goals. Sophomore Kerri Fleishhacker is third on the team with 18 goals while junior Jen DeVito is the only other player to record double-digits in assists (12).
Daniggelis has also been dominant for the Bulldogs on the draw, with a team-high 67 draw controls while sophomore Christina Doherty leads the team with 29 ground balls and caused turnovers.
Junior Erin McMullan has played every minute of the season in goal for Yale and owns an 11.00 goals against average along with a .389 save percentage.
Following Wednesday's game, the Terriers will travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on Cornell on Saturday (April 27). Opening draw is set for 1 p.m.
