NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Boston University women's lacrosse team held off a second-half surge by Yale to defeat the Bulldogs, 16-15, Wednesday afternoon at Reese Stadium. The win moves BU's record to 6-8 on the season (2-4 America East).

Eight different players scored for the Terriers, as senior Danielle Etrasco led the team with six goals and a pair of assists. Classmate Kristen Mogavero netted three goals while freshman Sofia Robins added a pair of tallies.

Juniors Elizabeth Morse, Becca Church and Sydney Godett each added a goal for BU while freshmen Ally Adams and Louisa Del Rio also found the back of the net. Adams also dished out a pair of assists while sophomore Lindsay Weiner added a helper.

Junior Christina Sheridan played the majority of the game in goal for the Terriers and recorded seven saves in 52:57 of action to secure the win. Senior Kim Elsworth came in for a seven-minute stretch during the second half and made one save for the Terriers.

After holding a 19-10 shot advantage at the half, Yale outshot BU in the second half to end the game with both teams recording 29 shots. The Bulldogs had an 18-12 advantage with ground balls and slight 17-16 lead in draw controls.

The Terriers started the scoring quickly, as Etrasco fed Del Rio on BU's first possession of the game. After winning the ensuing draw control, Mogavero made it a 2-0 game and Godett followed with a free position goal on the next possession to give the Terriers an early 3-0 lead. Yale got on the board with 25:25 to play with a tally from Erin Magnuson.

BU responded with four unanswered goals over a period of three and a half minutes. Morse made it a 4-1 game with a free position goal and Mogavero followed with an unassisted tally just over a minute later. Adams assisted on the Terriers' next two goals, first feeding the ball to Etrasco before finding Church to put BU ahead, 7-1, with 20:48 to play.

The Bulldogs stopped BU's streak with a free position goal from Nicole Daniggelis, but the Terriers extended their lead with a trio of consecutive tallies. Etrasco scored netted a pair of free position shots and Mogavero found the back of the net unassisted with 12 minutes remaining to extend BU's lead to 10-2.

Yale got back on the board with a free position goal from Devon Rhodes while the Terriers answered with a strike from Adams off an assist from Etrasco. Rhodes continued to spark the Bulldogs' offense with two consecutive goals to make it an 11-5 game with 5:16 remaining in the half. Robins tacked on another goal for BU on a free position shot while Magnuson scored her second of the game for Yale with 39 seconds remaining to send the teams into the break with the Terriers on top, 12-6.

Both defenses started strong in the second half as the first goal of the period game with 22:44 to play from the stick of Etrasco. Horka won the following draw control and Weiner fed Etrasco for the senior to net her second straight goal and push the Terriers' lead to 14-6.

Momentum then went to the Bulldogs, as Yale scored six unanswered goals and shutout the Terriers' offense for almost nine minutes while cutting BU's lead to 14-12 with 13:27 to play. Robins broke the Bulldogs run with 9:49 remaining with an unassisted goal and Etrasco followed with her seventh goal of the game to give BU a four-goal lead, 16-12, with 4:20 to play.

Yale scored the last three goals of the game with the last tally coming with 1:58 remaining in regulation. Etrasco won the following draw control and the Terriers maintained possession to run out the clock and seal their 16-15 victory.

BU takes on its second straight opponent from the Ivy League on Saturday (April 27) when the Terriers travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on Cornell. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
