Following a successful weekend in which the Boston University women’s lacrosse team played against a pair of Japanese National Teams, the Terriers continued their trip to Japan with sightseeing and games against several Japanese universities.
Before returning to the field, the team had a day off in which they traveled outside of Tokyo to Kamakura, which is a traditional Japanese city. There, the team visited the Dailbutsu, also known as the “Great Buddha.” The Terriers spent the afternoon shopping handmade crafts and dining at a rotating sushi restaurant.
On Tuesday, BU returned to the field to play Keio University, the Japanese National Champion. The game was a battle between two aggressive defensive teams and became as strategic as a chess game in terms of who could get a goal past the excellent play of BU goalkeeper Christina Sheridan and Keio’s goalie, who is also the goalkeeper for the Japanese National Team.
The game ended in a 5-5 tie and after the contest, BU met the head of the Keio Alumni Association. There were discussions about scheduling a trip for Japanese lacrosse players to come to the United States and play.
Following the game against Keio, the Terriers took on Waseda University and put on a solid demonstration of BU lacrosse. The Terriers posted a 10-2 victory and had a lot of fun playing against players that served as the Terriers’ hosts earlier in the week.
On Wednesday, the Terriers competed against Meiji University, who demonstrated how welcoming the country of Japan is, as they took the Terriers on a campus tour and hosted a welcome lunch before BU played in its last game of the trip. The Meiji team hosts players on both the Japanese National and U21 National Team, making Meiji a fierce competitor.
The game was the last time members of the class of 2013 competed in a BU uniform and Danielle Etrasco was the lone representative of the class due to Kristen Mogavero suffering from an injury that occurred in a game earlier in the week. Etrasco had a fantastic farewell in a BU uniform, as she led the team in scoring with four goals and helped the Terriers claim a 9-6 victory.
After the game, the teams posed for many pictures before the Terriers headed to a shabu shabu dinner, where meat and vegetables are cooked in boiling water.
Stay tuned to GoTerriers.com for a final recap, as the Terriers wrap up their trip and return to Boston on June 7.
