OSHAWA, Ontario - Boston University women's lacrosse head coach Liz Robertshaw and recent BU graduate Danielle Etrasco ('13) helped the U.S. Women's National Lacrosse team capture the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup Championship Saturday afternoon with a 19-5 win over Canada in Oshawa, Canada.
Team USA won its second straight World Cup crown and its seventh overall world championship. The U.S. has also taken home gold in 1982, '89, '93, '97, '01 and '09.
Etrasco scored three goals for Team USA, who went undefeated throughout the tournament. After going 4-0 in Pool Play, the U.S. cruised past the Haudenosaunee in the quarterfinals on Thursday by a score of 20-1, including a team-high five goals from Etrasco. Team USA then took down Team England, 21-8, in the quarterfinals on Friday. Etrasco netted four goals and dished out an assist in the victory.
This was the first World Cup Championship for Etrasco and Robertshaw, who is an assistant coach for Team USA. Etrasco, a two-time All-American, became the first Terrier to play in the World Cup after concluding her career at BU in May.
The three-time America East First Team All-Conference honoree finished second all-time in school history with 248 points. She also ranks second in goals (192) while her 157 draw controls are third all-time for the Terriers.
