
Terriers Host Holy Cross Under the Lights Friday

BOSTON - The Boston University field hockey team (7-6, 2-1 Patriot League) will return to its Patriot League schedule on Friday (Oct. 17) when it hosts Holy Cross (3-12, 0-4 PL) under the lights at New Balance Field. The game, which starts at 7 p.m., will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
Prior to the contest, BU will honor Sally Starr for reaching the 400-win mark as the Terriers' head coach and also for being named to the 2014 induction class for the NFHCA Hall of Fame.
The Terriers have won three of their past four games while only three combined goals during the stretch. Most recently, BU tied No. 6 Connecticut, 1-1, before ultimately falling in a shootout on Sunday to see a three-game win streak come to a end.
After winning two of its first three games this season, Holy Cross is 1-11 in its past 12 contests. The Crusaders are coming off a 5-4 overtime loss at Dartmouth on Monday.
The Terriers and Crusaders, who first met back in 1980, faced off last season for the first time since 1996. BU earned a 2-0 road win to improve its record in the all-time series to 15-2-1, which now includes 15 straight wins after going 0-2-1 in the first three meetings.
Holy Cross is paced offensively this year by a rookie, as freshman Maureen Connolly has 12 points on six goals. Juniors Kaitlyn Murray and Katy Cronin each have seven points on three goals and an assist. Fellow junior Michell McNeil has a team-best four assists.
In goal, senior Kat Matchett has started 10 of her team's games and sports a .689 save percentage and a 2.21 goal-against average.
Six Terriers have six or more points this season, led by sophomore Amanda Cassera, who has team highs in points (16) and goals (7). Classmate Hester van der Laan has posted nine points on four goals and an assist and junior Sofi Laurito has eight points on two tallies and a team-best four assists.
During the Terriers' recent strong play, senior goalkeeper Valentina Cerda Eimbcke has lowered her goals-against average to 1.72 and raised her save percentage to .733.
In regulation this season, BU and its opponents are dead even (8-8 in first half, 14-14 in second half).
After the Holy Cross game, the Terriers will wrap up the weekend with a cross-state trip to Massachusetts on Sunday (Oct. 19). Game time is set for 2 p.m.
