October 8, 2014 | Field Hockey
The Terriers are coming off a 3-1 victory over Harvard on Sunday, as head coach Sally Starr earned her 400th win at BU.
Winners of six of their last seven contests, the Friars had a five-game win streak snapped last Friday in an overtime loss to Temple before rebounding with a 5-1 victory against Quinnipiac on Sunday. Wednesday's tilt will wrap up a four-game homestand for Providence.
BU and Providence have had two common opponents thus far, as the two teams fell to both Boston College and Northeastern.
The Friars are led by a freshman this season, as Megan Hamilton has been one of the top rookies in nation with 22 points on the strength of 10 goals. Senior Daniella Bernasconi also has 22 points (9g, 4a) and classmate Steph Guglielmo is close behind with 20 (8g, 4a).
In the Providence goal, senior Deidra Clymer has started all 12 games and has a 1.90 goals-against average to go along with a .662 save percentage.
So far this season, the Friars have only earned 12 first-half corners while giving up 28. However, they are out-cornering their opponents by an impressive 55-25 margin in the second half.
Sophomore Amanda Cassera continues to lead the Terriers in both goals (6) and points (13). All seven (3g, 1a) of classmate Taylor Blood's points have come in the past four contests while another sophomore - Hester van der Laan - has nine points on four goals and an assist.
Senior Valentina Cerda Eimbcke has a 2.09 goals-against average in 10 starts and also sports a .694 save percentage.
BU has defeated the Friars in overtime in each of the past two seasons and holds a four-match win streak in the series. The Terriers are 19-10 all-time against Providence.
