HAMILTON, N.Y. - After defeating Navy in the Patriot League Semifinal Round on Friday night, the Boston University women's soccer team is ready to defend its title against regular season champion and host Colgate in the Patriot League Championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Terriers (13-4-3) had a late night on Friday in the semifinal, starting their match with the Mids at 9:15 p.m. on an icy field at Colgate's Beyer-Small '76 Field. BU found its footing enough to earn a 2-0 victory over Navy, the second time this season the Terriers have shut out the Midshipmen, and advance to the tournament finals.Colgate took a 2-1 win against Bucknell earlier in the night to make it to the championship game.
Sunday's match looks to be less weather-driven, with the forecast projecting 42 degrees and no precipitation. The Terriers have already beaten the Raiders this season, taking a 2-0 victory on Oct. 22 at home in another game of wild weather. With heavy rains and winds reaching 25 miles per hour, BU stood tough and handed Colgate its only conference loss of the season.
The last time Boston U. played against the Raiders on their field was last year during the regular season and the Terriers came away with a decisive 3-0 victory. However, Colgate gave BU a challenge in the 2013 Patriot League Tournament, fighting off the Terriers for 110 minutes and forcing the game to be decided by penalty kicks, where BU ultimately outscored the Raiders 4-1 to advance to the title game.Colgate features both the Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and Goalkeeper of the Year in Sarah Coy and Brenna Mason, respectively. Coy leads the team with 18 points off of eight goals and two assists. Seven of her goals were scored during conference play, the most of any Patriot League student-athlete.
Mason has the league's best save percentage in conference games, stopping shots 92 percent of the time. She has allowed just 10 goals to get past her all season, two of which were by Terriers.Boston U.'s Alyssa Parisi enters the game having stopped four shots to earn a shutout against Navy, the most saves she has tallied in a 90-minute game so far this season. Parisi has allowed just 11 balls past her this year and only four in conference games.
Jenna Fisher leads the team with seven goals but the Terriers have a fairly balanced attack, with nine players scoring multiple goals this season.
