The No. 15 Boston University field hockey team will begin the final week of its regular season on Wednesday when the Terriers travel to Harvard. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
BU (11-5, 6-0 PL) just clinched its Patriot League regular-season title with a 6-0 win over Bucknell this past Saturday and moved up two spots to No. 15 in the NFHCA national poll. The Terriers earned three weekly awards from the Patriot League on Monday, with senior Rachel Coll, junior Cammy Jensen and freshman Kara Enoch receiving PL Defensive Player, Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively.
Wednesday will mark the 31st all-time meeting between BU and Harvard. The Terriers own a 17-12-1 advantage in the all-time series and have won six straight against the Crimson, though this will be just the second game between the two schools since 2009.
The Terriers boast an offense that ranks 13th in the NCAA and first in the conference with an average of 3.21 goals per game. Junior Bea Baumberger Altirriba leads BU with 24 points on five goals and 14 assists. Baumberger Altirriba is fourth in the country with an average of 0.88 helpers per game. Senior Sofi Laurito has scored a team-best nine goals and is second on the squad with 19 points.
Jensen has started all 16 games in the cage and has been part of all four Terrier shutouts this season. She has allowed just 1.77 goals per game, which is tops in the Patriot League.
Harvard (7-6, 2-3 Ivy) has lost three straight games, including a 2-1 defeat at the hands of No. 20 Princeton, which converted two late penalty corners to get by the Crimson. The Harvard defense has allowed just 1.84 goals per game but the Crimson offense has only scored an average of 2.06 goals per game.
Junior Marissa Balleza is leading the Crimson in scoring for the third-straight season with 10 goals and a team-best 24 points. Senior Elizabeth Jacobson has notched a career-best eight goals and 20 points and freshman Kathleen Young has four tallies and two helpers for 10 points. The trio has combined to account for 54 of Harvard's 73 points this year.
Following Wednesday's contest, BU will conclude the regular season at No. 5 Wake Forest on Sunday at 1 p.m.
