BOSTON-The Boston University women's basketball team hosts Boston College in a battle for Commonwealth Ave. on Saturday, Nov. 21 in Case Gym. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. and the game will be aired live on the Patriot League Network.
STORYLINES
-This is the 22nd all-time meeting between the pair, dating back to 1978.
-BC and BU have met in each of the last seven seasons, with the Eagles holding a 5-2 advantage over the Terriers in that span.
-This is the first time the pair has played in Case Gym in two years, with the last meeting in 2012 ending in a 52-46 Terrier victory.
-Though their times did not overlap, BU assistant coaches Cindy Blodgett and Stephanie Tobey and BC assistant coach Tom Garrick all spent time at Rhode Island.
-Garrick served as the head coach from 2005-09 while Blodgett and Tobey began as assistant coaches prior to the 2011-12 season.
QUICK HITS
-Last year, BU dropped a 73-56 decision to the eagles.
-BU enters its third season in the Patriot League and second under the command of head coach Katy Steding.
-The Terriers return nine players from the 2014-15 season and added five during the off-season.
-This year’s captains are Clodagh Scannell, Courtney Latham, Sarah Hope and Corrine Williams.
-Six players who started 12 or more games return for the 2015-16 season.
-BU’s leading scorer (11.5) and rebounder (6.7), Meghan Green, returns to the lineup as a junior.
-The Terriers enter their 41st season as a varsity program.
ADDED INCENTIVE
-Though meant for the Notre Dame-Boston College football matchup held at Fenway Park this Saturday, the Prudential Center, whose shadow falls on the Boston University campus, will be lit Maroon and Gold on Saturday, giving BU added fuel to the fire against a long-time rival.
-The Prudential Center is visible from nearly every point on campus.
A TERRIER WIN WOULD...
-Break Boston College’s two-game series win-streak.
-Give BU its first win of the season.
-Make the series even at 11-11.
-Be Coach Steding’s first win against an ACC opponent.
THE TERRIERS
-The Terriers started off the 2015-16 with a loss to Northeastern, 77-44 on Friday afternoon in Case Gym. Senior Troi Melton led the team with 12 points, junior Meghan Green grabbed a Terrier-high eight rebounds and freshman Payton Hauck dished out a BU-best four assists in her collegiate debut.
-BU did not fair better in the next game against Albany, suffering a 83-43 loss. Sarah Hope, Naiyah Thompson, Lauren Spearman and Meghan Green all contributed nine points each.
-BU returns nine players from the 2014-15 season and adds five newcomers to this year’s squad.
-Last year the Terriers finished with a 5-25 overall record and 2-16 mark in conference action.
-Despite a competitive game, BU’s postseason was cut short with a 58-48 loss at Colgate in the Patriot League First Round.
-Junior Meghan Green was the team’s top scorer and rebounder in 2014-15, averaging 11.5 ppg and 6.7 rpg.
THE EAGLES
-Boston College is a perfect 3-0 to start the season, taking wins against Providence, Maine and Holy Cross.
-The Eagles add two to their roster and lose three from the 2014-15 squad.
-Kelly Hughes has emerged as the team’s leading scorer, averaging 17.3 points per game so far this season.
-Mariella Fasoula is also averaging double figures, contributing 10.3 ppg.
-BC is led by Erik Johnson, who is in his fourth season with the Eagles.
THE SERIES
-Saturday’s game marks the 22nd meeting between the two schools.
-Boston College holds a slight, 11-10 lead over the Terriers, all-time.
-The Eagles have claimed the last two contests but BU bested BC in the last game held in Case Gym.
-The pair first met in 1978.
KEEPING IT LOCAL
-The Terriers will not leave New England during the non-conference schedule and face schools only from the Northeast until January.
-BU plays all three Boston-area schools in the first four games of the season, starting with the season opener against NU last Friday.
-In total, the Terriers play six schools from Massachusetts in the first half of their season.
-Every non-conference road game is a day-trip, as the Terriers play at Harvard, Dartmouth, UMass Lowell, New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
PATRIOT LEAGUE NETWORK
-The Patriot League Network, in collaboration with Campus Insiders, enters its third season this year.
-The Patriot League will live-stream hundreds of its men’s and women’s sporting events, add studio programming and grow distribution on multiple platforms and devices.
-All BU women’s basketball home games and road conference games that are not part of a television package will be available to watch for free on PLN.
