BOSTON - The Boston University women's basketball team hosts Marist on Saturday, Dec. 12 for a 2 p.m. tip in Case Gym. The Terriers (0-8) are in search of their first win of the season while Marist (2-7, 2-0 MAAC) is looking for its first non-conference victory of the year.
Saturday is National Take a Kid to the Game Day, and BU is celebrating by offering a free youth ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time at the Agganis Arena Box Office or on the day of the game at the Case Center Box Office. A "kid's press conference" will take place following the game, where kids in attendance will have the opportunity to take part in a mock-press conference featuring selected women's basketball players.
Students are encouraged to attend the game for a "study break" and enjoy free cookies and hot chocolate before getting back to the books to study for finals.
As always, the game will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network, which can be found by visiting PatriotLeague.tv.
QUICK HITS
-Sarah Hope matched the school single-game record in 3-pointers made with seven against Rhode Island with seven. The junior is currently ranked 10th all-time at BU in career three's with 124.
-Hope took over as the team's leading scorer after scoring a career-high 23 points against the Rams. She is averaging 9.8 points per game and 2.9 three's per game.
-Three Terriers are currently averaging over nine points per contest.
-BU enters its third season in the Patriot League and second under the command of head coach Katy Steding.
-BU returns nine players from the 2014-15 season and added five during the off-season.
-This year's captains are Clodagh Scannell, Courtney Latham, Sarah Hope and Corrine Williams.
-Six players who started 12 or more games return for the 2015-16 season.
-The Terriers enter their 41st season as a varsity program.
A TERRIER WIN WOULD...
-End a two-game skid against the Red Foxes and be the first series home win since 2011.
-Give BU its first win of the season.
-Be the Terriers' first win over a MAAC opponent since 2013 when the Terriers defeated Monmouth, the former school of transfer Sophie Beaudry.
THE TERRIERS
-The Terriers starts the season on an eight-game skid, dropping contests with Northeastern, Albany, Boston College, Harvard, Dartmouth, UMass-Lowell, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
-Sarah Hope has been outstanding from long-range as of late, matching her career-high with six three's against UMass Lowell and then beating her personal best and matching the school record with seven against Rhode Island on Wednesday night.
-After her career-high 23-point performance against the Rams, Hope took over as the BU scoring leader, averaging 9.8 points per game off of 2.9 3-pointers per contest. Meghan Green, who was out last game with an injury, is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 6.3 boards per game.
-BU returns nine players from the 2014-15 season and adds five newcomers to this year's squad.
THE RED FOXES
-Marist's 2-7 record to start the season is partially due to its strength of schedule, as the Red Foxes began with games against 2015 NCAA Tournament participants LSU, South Dakota State and Louisville as well as St. John's, who is currently receiving votes in both the AP and USA Today polls.
-Tori Jarosz leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging a double-double with 14.1 ppg and 10.2 rpg. Sydney Coffey is also averaging double-figure scoring with 11.4 ppg and is the team's top distributer, averaging 3.4 assists per game.
-The Marist offense has not been prolific this season, as the Red Foxes average just 54.0 points per contest. Their opponents are averaging 66.8 points per game, which is due largely to an average of nearly nine steals per game by Marist's foes.
THE SERIES
-Saturday's game is the 12th all-time meeting between Marist and Boston University.
-The Red Foxes lead the series, 6-5 and have claimed the last two contests including last season on their home court.
-Marist and BU have faced each other in each of the last eight seasons.
