March 11, 2015 | Women's Lacrosse
DENVER - The Boston University women's lacrosse team headed west to Colorado for a spring break mid-week game against the University of Denver. Despite a late rally, the Terriers (3-3) were unable to comeback and fell to the Pioneers (3-2), 13-8 on Wednesday night.
Mallory Collins led the Terriers with three goals on the night while Caroline Meegan finished with five saves.
For the Pioneers, Nicole Martindale led with two goals and an assist while Hannah Hook made eight saves.
Denver jumped out to a quick lead scoring just 38 seconds into the game and tacked on another goal a few minutes later to take an early 2-0 advantage. The Terriers cut that lead in half with a goal of their own when Mallory Collins scored her first of the night with 24:51 left in the half on a free position shot.
Denver responded reeling off three goals before the Terriers were able to get on the board once again in the 10th minute when Jill Horka notched her fourth goal of the season and first of the game.
The two teams exchanged goals and with 12 minutes left in the first half it looked as though Sarah Andersen cut the lead to two, but her goal was negated by a foul and Denver would go on to extend its lead to seven near the end of the period.
BU got one back before halftime as Ally Adams tallied a free position goal, her 11th goal of the season, to make it a 10-4 game at the half.
Horka tallied her second goal of the game by taking advantage of a man-up situation for the Terriers to make it a 10-5 game with 24:58 remaining but Denver responded to take an 11-5 lead.
The Terriers notched three straight goals as Remy Nolan started the rally off of a free position and was followed by two Collins goals to cut the lead to three but the Pioneers put an end to the surge with a pair goals of their own, including one in the final seconds to finish with a 13-8 victory.
The Terriers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 18 when they travel to cross-state rival Holy Cross for a 6 p.m. draw.
