DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 13 Boston University field hockey team is embarking on its longest trip of the season with a visit to No. 3 Duke on Sunday for a 1 p.m. contest. The game will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.
The Terriers (7-3) are looking to snap a three-game skid after beginning the season with seven straight wins while the Blue Devils' lone blemish on their 9-1 record is a one-goal loss to archrival North Carolina.
BU suffered its first shutout loss of the season on Thursday in a 1-0 home contest against Harvard. Duke, which won its first eight games, rebounded from its loss to UNC with a 6-2 home win over No. 15 Boston College on Friday.
This will mark the ninth time in the past 11 years that BU and Duke will be facing off. The Blue Devils are undefated during the stretch but four of the games were decided by a single goal, including three that went to overtime. Last season at New Balance Field, Duke escaped with 1-0 victory thanks to an overtime goal by then-junior Heather Morris.
Five Blue Devils have scored 10 or more points this season. That group is led by Morris, who has team highs in both points (22) and goals (10). Junior Alyssa Chillano has tallied 18 points on eight goals and two assists while sophomore Rose Tynan has contributed six goals.
Redshirt freshman Sammi Steele has started all 10 of Duke's games in goal and currently sports a .755 save percentage and a 1.26 goals-against average.
The Terriers will attempt to shake their recent woes on the offensive end, having scored just two goals in the past 240 minutes. Senior strikers Amanda Cassera (5g, 2a) and Taylor Blood (4g, 4a) lead the way with 12 points each. Sophomore back Ally Hammel (4-2--10), senior Hester van der Laan (4-1--9) and junior Allie Renzi (4-1--9) give BU five players with nine or more points.
Cammy Jensen continues to have a strong senior season in goal and enters Sunday's contest with a .702 save percentage to go along with a 1.39 goals-against average.
