
Hammel Tabbed Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After helping the No. 14 Boston University field hockey team close out the year with two victories to claim the Patriot League regular-season title, sophomore back Ally Hammel has been named the Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Needing both wins to earn the top seed in the Patriot League tournament, the Terriers finished off a 3-1 home victory over Holy Cross on Tuesday before handing American its first conference loss of the season in a 2-1 contest on Saturday.
Hammel recorded a defensive save in the 18th minute of Saturday's victory over American to keep the game scoreless. She also earned an assist in the 3-1 win against the Crusaders. Hammel and the BU defense only allowed a combined four shots on goal over the two contests.
This is a league-best third time this season that Hammel has earned the weekly defensive honor.
Hammel and the top-seeded Terriers continue their quest for a third consecutive Patriot League title on Friday when they host fourth-seeded Bucknell in the semifinal round. Game time at New Balance Field is set for 1 p.m.
The winner with face the winner from the American/Holy Cross semifinal on Sunday at noon in the league title game. All three contests will take place at New Balance Field.
