Field Hockey Treks to Brown Friday

The Boston University field hockey team (2-2) will face its second consecutive Ivy League opponent on Friday (Sept. 11) when it travels to Providence to take on Brown. Game time is set for 3 p.m.

TERRIER TIDBITS
- The Terriers have split their first two weekends of the season and are coming off a 5-1 triumph over Dartmouth on Sunday at New Balance Field.
- Graduate student Maddie Hudson, who has missed three full seasons due to injury, and sophomore Lucy Johnson have scored in three of the team's four games this season, combining for eight goals.
- Both of them scored in the Dartmouth win along with graduate student Caroline O'Brien, senior Alex Purcell and sophomore Rachel Turer.
- O'Brien is back after one of the best offensive seasons in program history, leading the 2025 Patriot League champions in points (37), goals (15) and assists (7).
- O'Brien and senior Nicole Lauro were named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and joined senior Olivia Hammer, senior Maggie Driscoll and sophomore Molly Driscoll on the 2026 NFHCA Collegiate Watchlist.
- Senior Sophie Ortyl earned 17 starts in goal last season and tied a career high with 10 saves against the Friars on Aug. 30.
- BU was selected to finish third in the Patriot League preseason poll behind American and Lafayette.
- Hudson and Maggie Driscoll are serving as co-captains for the 2026 season.
SCOUTING BROWN
- The Bears opened their season last weekend, dropping a 3-0 contest to No. 9 UConn before earning a 4-2 win over Quinnipiac on Sunday.
- Friday's game will end a season-starting three-game homestand for Brown.
- Last season, Brown had 10 wins for the first time since 2003 and earned its first national ranking in 26 years.
- Senior Mia Karine Myklebust, a U.S. National Team player, is the top returner after tying for the team lead in points in 2025 with 24 on eight goals and eight assists.
- Junior Kiersten Smith contributed 12 points a season ago and both her and Myklebust scored a goal last weekend.
- Sophomore Ellie Parker is in her second year as the team's primary goalkeeper after a rookie season that saw her rank 16th nationally in both goals-against average (1.25) and save percentage (.765)
- The Bears were picked fifth in the Ivy League preseason poll.
SERIES HISTORY
- BU and Brown are an even 4-4-2 in 10 all-time meetings.
- The teams last met in 2024 when the Terriers earned a 3-2 road win in a shootout.
- A scheduled meeting last season was cancelled due to inclement weather.
LOOKING AHEAD
- BU will return home on Sunday (Sept. 13) when it hosts Maine.
- Game time is set for 1 p.m.
