Women's Basketball Announces Three New Terriers
November 23, 2016 | Women's Basketball
BOSTON – The Boston University women's basketball team will welcome three newcomers for the 2017-18 season after they signed early National Letters of Intent, head coach Katy Steding announced Wednesday afternoon.
Massachusetts native Katie Nelson, Pennsylvanian Mackenzie Miers and Tenisha Pressley of New Jersey all play different positions and will make up the Class of 2021 after having already combined for three state titles.
"I am looking forward to welcoming these accomplished young women to campus next fall after going through the recruiting process with them," said Steding. "All three have experienced success throughout their playing careers and will help bolster our depth."
MACKENZIE MIERS (6-3 * F * Easton, Pa./Easton)
Coming off a 2016 All-Lehigh Valley Third Team selection, Miers has helped guide Easton H.S. to a pair of state playoff appearances. Despite having only played the sport since eighth grade after a young career in swimming, ESPN's Hoopgurlz ranks her at No. 55 overall at the forward position. Miers won the 2015 Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago with the Lehigh Valley Fever AAU team and was named to the 2015 USJN Tournament All-Star squad.
Steding on Miers: Mackenzie is a versatile, athletic "tweener" who has a high IQ and an aggressive style. I anticipate that she will be a big asset on the boards and in transition as she continues to expand her game. One of the things I saw immediately in Kenzie was an ability to take advantage of her matchup and especially use her length on the perimeter. She's a very instinctual and coachable player who we really look forward to having in the program.

KATIE NELSON (5-8 * PG * East Falmouth, Mass./Bishop Feehan)
A four-year varsity starter, Nelson has already eclipsed the 1,000-point milestone and is both a three-time Sun Chronicle First Team and Eastern Athletic Conference All-Star. Besides averaging 18.2 ppg, 7.2 apg and 4.2 spg last year, she also succeeded in the class to earn both 2016 Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic accolades.
Steding on Nelson: Katie is a terrific young leader who has a competitive streak a mile wide. Her court vision, strong handle and scoring ability anywhere on the floor make her a tremendous addition to our young core of perimeter players. Not only a scorer, she's a talented defender who never backs down from an opponent.
TENISHA PRESSLEY (5-9 * SG * Wenonah, N.J./Gloucester Catholic)
Achieving team success at two different schools, Pressley first helped lead Shipley H.S. (Pa.) to a pair of PAISAA State Championships while earning All-Friends League honors. Prior to her junior season, she transferred to Gloucester Catholic and helped her new team claim both the tri-county conference and South Jersey Invitational Basketball Tournament championships. ESPN Hoopgurlz currently ranks her as the No. 63 recruit at the guard position.
Steding on Pressley: We are excited about the contributions Tenisha will make as a Terrier. She is an athletic slasher who plays with great intensity. As a shooting guard, she can stretch defenses with her three point shooting ability and she also attacks very well in transition, creating scoring opportunities for her teammates and herself. On the other side of the ball, Tenisha is a lockdown defender who can really pressure and help force turnovers.
