Women's basketball senior Sarah Hope attended the four-day conference hosted by the NCAA
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Rising senior Sarah Hope of the Boston University women's basketball team was chosen to attend the NCAA Career in Sports Forum last weekend, held at the NCAA national office in Indianapolis, Ind.
The second year in a row a Terrier has been selected, Hope was one of 200 student-athletes across all divisions chosen to attend the conference.
"Being in a room full of student-athletes, I really had to stop and think about what made me special," Hope said. "I'm so used to defining myself as a basketball player but in a room full of athletes, I had to figure out what made me different. That was a very important lesson that I learned last weekend that I will carry with me into my career."
The four-day program is designed to assist student-athletes in charting a career path and provide an opportunity to network and learn from current athletics professionals.
Hope heard from keynote speakers each day, ranging from Mark Emmert, NCAA President, to athletic directors and head coaches, and were divided into small-group classroom discussions, which covered the hot topics in athletics today.
"This conference taught me that going into athletics as a career path is something that you really have to be committed to and know why you want to be there," Hope said. "Talking to many different people this weekend, it really confirmed for me that I want to do this and gave me the right mindset for answering why I want to work in athletics. The best advice I got at this conference is to know your 'why'."
