BU Hall of Fame member Sarah Dalton accepts first Division I head coach position in home state
BURLINGTON, Vt. - After a whirlwind year of accolades for former Boston University women's lacrosse standout Sarah Dalton, she accepted her first Division I head coaching position as the new leader of the Vermont women's lacrosse team, the school announced on Friday.
The three-time All-American was inducted into both the Boston University Hall of Fame and US Lacrosse Vermont Chapter Hall of Fame this year. Dalton is arguably the best offensive player to ever wear the Scarlet and White and she has left her mark in both the Terrier and NCAA record books. The Cornwall, Vt. native is the all-time scoring leader at Boston University, totaling 284 points including 247 goals throughout her career.
Prior to heading back to her home state, Dalton served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for four seasons at Notre Dame. She helped the Fighting Irish earn a top-20 national ranking and an NCAA Tournament berth during all four years of her tenure. This past season, Notre Dame led the country in caused turnovers while ranking seventh in scoring offense and ninth in assists per game.
Dalton is one of five Boston University Alums that are coaching at the Division I level this season. Lauren Morton ('08) enters her third season as an assistant at Duke in 2016-17 while Caitlin Defliese ('10) is spending her sixth season at Stony Brook and second as the Associate Head Coach. Christina Sheridan joined the High Point staff last summer and will be with the Panthers again this season as an assistant coach.
Danielle Etrasco, who is playing with the Boston Storm in the UWLX this summer, joined Georgetown's staff for the 2016-17 season after helping Army West Point begin its program last year, the Black Knight's first season at the varsity level.
