Curro Wins First UWLX Championship With Storm
August 2, 2016 | Women's Lacrosse
BALTIMORE—Former Terrier and current member of the Long Island Sound, McKinley Curro won the first-ever United Women's Lacrosse League (UWLX) Championship on Sunday, defeating the Boston Storm and her former teammate Danielle Etrasco, 13-8, at Homewood Field on Johns Hopkins' campus.
"It has been an incredible ride being a part of the inaugural season of the UWLX, the first professional women's lacrosse league," Curro said. "Growing up I dreamed of playing lacrosse after college but back then there was no platform. It is so great to see the young girls at our games wearing our team gear and cheering us on—the dream is real for them! To be a part of the first championship team is wild and I'm so proud!"
Curro finished the 2016 season with five goals for the Sound while Etrasco totaled 11 goals and two assists this summer.
"The creation of the UWLX has given young girls role models to look up to and an avenue to showcase their skills on the professional level after college," BU head coach Liz Robertshaw said. "It's ground breaking, and to know that we had two Terriers playing in this historic league is a testament to the program. Watching McKinley and her team hoist the first-ever women's professional lacrosse league championship trophy was an amazing sight and one that makes every member of the Terrier Lacrosse Family proud."
