BOSTON – Following a three-game road trip, the Boston University men's soccer team has returned home to host Holy Cross on Wednesday night with the Turnpike Trophy matchup slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Wednesday will serve as a Faculty & Staff Appreciation game, which will include a free ticket and a free pre-game dinner reception for BU faculty and staff members. To register, please click here.
TURNPIKE TROPHY
- BU has claimed the Turnpike Trophy each of the last two years against Holy Cross in the all-sports competition by margins of 21-1 (2016-17) and 20-4 (2015-16).
- The Terriers are off to a 1-0 start this season after women's soccer posted a 1-0 home win last week.
TERRIER TIDBITS
- Through two games, the Terriers are one of three unbeaten teams in conference play at 2-0 alongside Loyola Maryland (2-0) and Holy Cross (1-0-1).
- BU is 1-1-1 at home this season with a win over Harvard (1-0), draw to Princeton (1-1) and loss to Boston College (4-0).
- The Crusaders mark the fifth of six scheduled in-state rivals with a short trek to Northeastern on Oct. 17 remaining ... Both BU and HC shared one non-conference opponent this season with both falling at Brown by an identical score of 2-1.
- Freshman Toti Knutsson was named Patriot League Rookie of the Week on Monday after posting a goal and assist in Saturday's 2-0 win at Lehigh ... He now leads the team with five points (2g,1a), two ahead of both senior Adam Sheikali (1g,1a) and sophomore Mana Chavali (1g,1a).
- Freshmen Peter Kargbo and Elias Lampis are the only two Terriers to have started all 10 games with Kargbo playing a team-high 843 minutes.
- Sophomore Michael Bernardi has started the last three games at net, earning a shutout at both American and Lehigh ... He owns a 1.69 goals against average and 0.724 save percentage.
- Opponents own a 107-98 advantage in shots despite the Terriers leading in corner kicks, 36-29.
- The Crusaders are currently on a three-game unbeaten streak with a pair of home shutout wins over Northeastern (3-0) and Lafayette (2-0) and road draw at Navy (1-1).
- HC opened season with a 2-1 win at Hartford before going on a five-game winless streak featuring road losses at Brown and New Hampshire (2-0) with a draw at Siena (0-0) ... The Crusaders are 1-2-2 on the road after going 0-6-2 last season.
- Arno Rupp and Owen Azrak lead HC with two goals apiece ... Despite owning nine goals total, HC just has one assist recorded by R.J. Place.
- Henry Stutz has played every second at net, posting a 1.37 GAA and .711 save percentage with three shutouts.
- Opponents own a slight advantage in shots, 101-99, and corner kicks, 46-44.
- BU owns an 11-2-0 advantage in a rivalry that dates back to 1967 ... The two teams though did not meet between 1973-2009.
- The Terriers are 3-1-0 since joining the Patriot League in 2013 with the Crusaders pulling out a win in the first contest at Nickerson Field, 1-0.
- Last season, the Terriers won at Holy Cross, 2-0, despite being outshot, 20-14, with sophomore Matt McDonnell assisting on both goals … Matt Gilbert ('17) was named Turnpike Trophy MVP after making four impressive saves.
- Two years ago at Nickerson Field, Felix De Bona ('17) scored both goals, including one off a penalty kick, in the first half to help BU prevail, 2-1.
