
Patriot League Champs! Women's Tennis Four-Peats with 4-1 Victory over Top-Seed Army West Point

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After losing the doubles point, the No. 2-seed Boston University women's tennis team dug deep and captured four singles points, including two in straight sets, to defeat top-seed Army West Point, 4-1, for the Patriot League championship on Sunday afternoon at Lehigh's Ulrich Varsity Courts.
Guided by 32nd-year head coach Lesley Sheehan, the Terriers captured their 26th overall conference title and 17th automatic NCAA berth. After joining the PL from the America East in the summer of 2013, BU halted Army West Point's nine-year reign and has now won four straight titles, including two as the No. 2 seed.
Senior co-captain Barbara Rodriguez was named the John "Pat" Rooney PL Tournament MVP after she won all three of her singles matches this weekend in straight sets.

MATCH NOTES
- Army earned the top seed for the Patriot League tournament by defeating the Terriers, 4-2, at home back on April 15.
- In that contest, the Black Knights lost the doubles point ... In the rematch, they jumped out to a 1-0 lead by beating senior Madison Craft and sophomore Sophia Kryloff, 6-1, at line 3 and edging sophomore Remi Ramos and senior Barbara Rodriguez, 6-4, in the top slot.
- The Black Knights' lead did not last long though, as Rodriguez rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against Bridget Guenard.
- Sophomore and 2016 PL Tournament MVP Sabrina Faybyshev held off a late charge from Nancy Porter for the 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 win in the No. 4 slot.
- Participating in her first conference final, Kryloff only won one game in the first set but showed plenty of poise by rallying to defeat Yuka Lin, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, at line 6.
- Ramos clinched the team title by outlasting Kirby Einch in a hard-fought 7-5, 7-5 victory in the No. 2 slot.
- Junior and 2015 PL Tournament MVP Iryna Kostirko was ahead at line 1 against Melanie Allen, 5-7, 6-3, 4-2, when her match was halted ... The Black Knights were up one set at No. 5 against Craft, 7-5, 6-5.
- The Terriers will learn their NCAA destination on Tuesday (May 2) at 5:30 p.m. on the NCAA.com Selection Show.
