Andersen, Robertshaw Ready for World Cup
July 11, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
LONDON - With the FIL Women's World Cup set to begin on Wednesday, July 12, two current and one former member of the Boston University women's lacrosse team are set to represent three of the 25 participating nations.
Head coach Liz Robertshaw will be making her second appearance at the World Cup as an assistant on the U.S. Women's National Team. Robertshaw and Team USA took home its second straight World Cup crown and its seventh overall world championship in 2013 after defeating the host nation Canada, 19-5, in the title game. The U.S. has also taken home gold in 1982, '89, '93, '97, '01 and '09.
"The past four years have seemingly flown by and I am very excited to be here in Guilford ready to get started," said Robertshaw. "I am so thankful to have this opportunity to coach Team USA and in a second World Cup, so there's no way I am taking any of these moments for granted."
Sarah Anderson, who is just the second Terrier to represent a national team at an FIL Women's World Cup, will compete for Israel. Anderson was sidelined with a season-ending injury after playing in the opening three games of the season, though she has been a steady force at attack with 13 goals though three seasons and had started in 17 straight games before her injury.Love seeing @CEDefo '10 & Sarah Andersen '18 competing on the World Cup stage. #terriers @TerrierLacrosse @buathletics pic.twitter.com/B7E3FHWKlQ

Caitlin Defliese '10 will also be on the sidelines, as she will be an assistant on Team Canada's staff. A four-year defender for the Terriers, Defliese recorded 80 ground balls and caused 42 turnovers over her career and earned a spot on the America East Second Team in her final campaign. Defliese currently serves as an assistant coach at Syracuse.
"I saw saw Defo and Sarah at the Opening Ceremonies and it was kind of surreal," commented Robertshaw. "To have three Terriers at a World Cup representing three different countries, but at the same time representing BU, gave me such a proud feeling."
The tournament begins on Wednesday, July 12 with six days of round robin pool play and close with medal games on Saturday, July 22.
