Bedford Joins Women's Lacrosse Staff
August 21, 2017 | Women's Lacrosse
BOSTON - Mike Bedford has been named an assistant coach of the Boston University women's lacrosse team, as announced by head coach Liz Robertshaw Monday.
Bedford comes to Boston from William & Mary, where he served the previous two seasons as assistant coach, primarily working with the goalies in addition to recruiting. During his first season with the Tribe, he guided the goal-keeping unit to lead the Colonial Athletic Association with a 9.18 saves per game average. This past season, the Tribe saw two student-athletes named to the CAA all-league team.
Additionally, Bedford served as the head coach for the Philadelphia Force of the United Women's Lacrosse League for the 2017 season.
"I'm beyond excited to have Mike join our BU Lacrosse Family," said Robertshaw. "I have watched Mike's coaching skills grow exponentially from his time at Hofstra through this past year with William & Mary and the Philadelphia Force, and I feel he has solid ideas to bring to the table. In working various camps with Mike and seeing him on the recruiting trail for the past few summers, I know he's a worker who brings passion and energy to everything he does and that is a perfect fit for what we were looking for in this hire. I'm excited for the players to return to campus and start working with the full staff."'
Before joining Hofstra's staff, Bedford spent a year as an assistant coach with the men's program at Lenoir-Rhyne University, where he served as the defensive coordinator and was responsible for creating and implementing defensive plans. He was also involved in recruiting, as well as scouting and game planning.
Bedford got his coaching start at Suffolk Community College, where he had previously been a student-athlete from 2006-07. While leading the defense, the Sharks finished as the regional runner-up and had the fifth-best defense in the NJCAA. As a player, he was a member of the 2006 team that reached the NJCAA National Championship game. Bedford served as team captain in 2007 and earned second team All-America honors, as well as first team all-region honors.
Bedford also has extensive club and high school coaching experience. He has worked in the Half Hollows Hills East School District as a lacrosse coach and served as an operations director with Dynamic Sports Marketing, working as a field director for various lacrosse camps, clinics and training sessions. In addition, he has worked with the Long Island Junior Lizards as a varsity assistant coach and with Team USA as an assistant to the equipment manager.
In addition to his playing career at Suffolk Community College, Bedford was a member of the 2009 National Champion LIU Post team. Professionally, he was a member of the Charlotte Copperheads in 2012 and the Chesapeake Bayhawks in 2010.
Bedford graduated with a degree in physical education from LIU Post in 2010.

I am eager to hit the ground running and to work closely with the members of the Boston University Department of Athletics family."
