BOSTON - Following a two-game road trip to open the season, the Boston University women's soccer team will take Nickerson Field for its home opener on Thursday. Aug. 24 against cross-town rival Northeastern. Opening kickoff is set for 7 p.m. and can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.

Home Sweet Home

The Terriers have dominated on their home turf, posting a 165-36-19 all-time record.
In home openers, BU is 12-8-2, and has outscored opponents, 35-19.
The last time the Terriers took on Northeastern in their Nickerson Field debut was in 2011, which resulted in a 2-0 victory.

Last Time Out

BU dropped its opening games on the road at Louisville, 3-2, and Cincinnati, 2-0, as it couldn't climb out of a two-goal deficit in each contest.
Kelly Park and Kiana Ghamarifard tallied a goal apiece against the Cardinals.

Preseason Favorite

For the fifth year in-a-row, the Terriers were selected to win the Patriot League in the annual preseason poll.
BU edged Bucknell by four points for the top spot in the poll and received 12 first-place votes.
Julianna Chen was tabbed the preseason Midfielder of the Year, while Rachel Bloznalis earned her second straight preseason Defensive Player of the Year nod.

Feeling Honored

In addition to being named the Patriot League preseason Defensive Player of the Year, Rachel Bloznalis was named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List.
The reigning Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year posted one of the most accomplished seasons in program history on the backline last year, earning NSCAA All-Region First Team and Patriot League First Team honors.
A two-time captain, she is the first Terrier to be named to the Women's MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List since Marisha Schumacher-Hodge in 2007.

At the Helm

Head coach Nancy Feldman is in her 23rd season in guiding the Terriers and begins her 30th season as a head women's soccer coach at the collegiate level.
Feldman has posted a 287-137-41 (.664) mark during her tenure at BU and owns a 379-157-50 (.692) career record.
In NCAA history entering the 2017 season, she ranks No. 10 all-time in career wins and No. 23 all-time in career winning percentage.
Under Feldman's watch, the Terriers have won 12 conference regular season and postseason titles and have made 13 NCAA appearances.

Leading the Way

Rachel Bloznalis, Alivya Wimmer and Jacki Carty will serve as tri-captains for the season.
Bloznalis and Wimmer have been mainstays on the backline, while Carty posted a strong season last year at midfield after coming back from several injury setbacks.
Both Bloznalis and Carty participated in the Bloom Family Leadership Academy and were selected as Leaders of Distinction.

Patriot League Dominance

Since joining the Patriot League in 2013, the Terriers have dominated the league, posting a 31-3-2 record with four regular season championships and three tournament titles.

Locking In

The Terriers clamped down on Patriot League foes offense last season, leading the league with a 0.56 goals against average and tallied five shutouts.

Return of the Attack

The Terriers return their top two point scorers in McKenna Doyle and Jesse Shreck.
Doyle led the team in goals (4) and points (11), while Shreck lead the team in assists (4) and finished second in points (10).
The duo earned spots on the 2016 All-Patriot League Third Team.

Scouting the Huskies

Northeastern earned a pair of shutouts to start its season, bolting past Stony Brook, 1-0, before downing Holy Cross, 2-0.
The defending CAA champions, the Huskies return their top five scorers from a season ago.
Senior midfielder Hannah Lopiccolo was named the CAA Preseason Player of the Year and currently leads the team with three points and one goal and one assist.
Junior Hannah Rosenblatt led the team with 30 points and 13 goals last season and joined Lopiccolo on the Preseason All-CAA list along with senior Kayla Cappuzoo and junior Nathalie Nidetch.

The Series

BU is 11-6-1 all-time against its cross-town rival, though the Huskies have taken the past four matchups.

BU returns to Nickerson Field for the first matchup of a doubleheader with the men's team on Sunday. The women will open the day with a 4 p.m. showdown against Hofstra before the men's squad hosts Boston College in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
