Down 0-1 just six minutes into play, Jesse Shreck and Julianna Chen each found the back of the net off set-piece goals during the first half to guide the Terriers to snap a four-game losing streak to the Huskies.
How it Happened
- Northeastern struck in the sixth minute as Hannah Rosenblatt sent in a one-timer from 12 yards out off a cross from the right side.
- Shreck delivered the equalizer in the 19th minute, burying a penalty kick just under the crossbar.
- Erin Neville took a corner kick in the 33rd minute that found Alivya Wimmer, who chested a feed to the foot of Chen. With a pair of defenders closing on, Chen toed a one-timer past the Huskies netminder to give BU its first lead of the season.
- In a defensive slugfest in the second half, the one-goal cushion proved all BU would need as it won its first home opener since 2014.
- With the win, BU improved to 166-36-19 all-time in home contests.
- In home openers, BU is now 13-8-2 all-time and has outscored opponents, 36-19.
- All four of the Terriers goals this season have come on set pieces. The scores have come on two on corner kicks, one free kick and one penalty kick.
- "This game was so important for us. We struggled in non-conference play so this was a big one for our team this year and a big one to just get the winning feeling back."
- "We've had a great tradition at Boston University, these gals have a lot of pride and feel a lot of responsibility. It's nice to see them work this hard and see smiles on their faces at the end of the game."
- BU returns to Nickerson Field for the first matchup of a doubleheader with the men's team on Sunday. The women will open the day with a 4 p.m. showdown against Hofstra before the men's squad hosts Boston College in the nightcap at 7 p.m.
