Terriers Post 3-2 Road Win over UNH
January 12, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
DURHAM, N.H. - The Boston University men's ice hockey team picked up its first win of 2018 on Friday evening with a 3-2 road triumph over New Hampshire at the Whittemore Center.
Down 2-1 early in the second period, freshman Ty Amonte tied the game before junior Jordan Greenway provided the game winner to help the Terriers improve to 9-11-1 overall and 7-7-1 in Hockey East play.
Freshman Shane Bowers also scored for the Terriers, who got a 26-save performance from Jake Oettinger. The sophomore netminder was outstanding down the stretch, especially on a late UNH power play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bowers opened the scoring 4:26 into the game off a power-play rebound with assists from senior Brandon Hickey and freshman Brady Tkachuk.
- UNH got an equalizer at 14:48 of the first when Eric MacAdams raced to a puck that bounced off the end boards and somehow found an opening after Oettinger closed off the near post.
- The Wildcats took the lead when Jason Salvaggio finished off a 2-on-1 on a feed from MacAdams just 1:18 into the middle period.
- The freshman duo of Amonte and Hank Crone teamed up to draw BU even as Crone found his classmate in the right slot at 6:44 of the second.
- Greenway notched the game winner with 1:45 left in the second when he curled around the back of the net and pounced on a rebound from a Tkachuk shot, tucking it right in between the right post and the skate of UNH netminder Adam Clark.
- Both of UNH's power plays came in the final 12 minutes of regulation but Oettinger and the penalty kill stood tall to secure the victory.
GAME NOTES
- BU held a 38-28 shot advantage and was 1-of-4 on the power play.
- Bowers is now tied with junior Bobo Carpenter for the team lead in goals with nine.
- After taking a 1-0 lead, the Terriers had two goals overturned later in the first period after video replay determined that Carpenter and Greenway kicked pucks in.
- Sophomore Patrick Curry and senior Drew Melanson each earned an assist.
- UNH was paced by Salvaggio and MacAdams, who each recorded a goal and an assist.
- In his first game since winning the gold medal with Canada at World Juniors, sophomore Dante Fabbro had a team-best plus-2 rating and led all skaters with four blocked shots.
- The Terriers were without the services of their top point-scorer as sophomore Patrick Harper is recovering from an illness.
UP NEXT
- The Terriers will aim for a two-win weekend on Saturday (Jan. 13) when they host No. 11 Providence.
- Game time at Agganis Arena is set for 5 p.m.
