No. 12/13 Terriers Hold On For 5-4 Win Over Merrimack
November 8, 2025 | Men's Ice Hockey
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — Led by sophomore Sacha Boisvert and his four assists, the No. 12/13 Boston University men's ice hockey team held on for a 5-4 win over the Merrimack Warriors on Saturday night at Lawler Arena
The Terriers (5-5-1, 3-3-0 HE) were lifted by three second-period goals and added two in the final frame to hold off Merrimack (3-5-0, 2-4-0 HE) for the win. Junior captain Gavin McCarthy got the scoring started 36 seconds into the second period. He was followed up by goals from sophomores Cole Hutson and Ryder Ritchie in that frame.
The Warriors scored two straight goals after that, but senior Owen McLaughlin and junior Jack Harvey responded with goals. Merrimack scored twice with under three minutes to play, but the Terriers held strong to secure the win.
The first star of the game, Boisvert, was instrumental in the win with his four assists. Sophomore goaltender Mikhail Yegorov made 27 saves and only allowed one even-strength goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Neither team could do much in the first period, as the teams traded penalties but the lamps stayed unlit.
- BU outshot Merrimack 12-6 in the frame.
- The second period saw a combination of five goals and 10 penalties.
- 36 seconds into the second, a Boisvert stretch pass reached McLaughlijn, who in turn pivoted and slid the puck over to McCarthy. McCarthy took a second to gather himself before firing the rubber into the net.
- Hutson intitially carried the puck into the offensive zone, but after losing it he fired a one-timer from Boisvert into the twine to make it 2-0 3:04 into the frame.
- Ritchie was the next sophomore to score, as — guess who — Boisvert dished the rubber to his classmate after digging it out of a scrum. Ritchie's shot screamed over the goaltender's right pad.
- The Warriors would add two tallies of their own, both on the power play, in the second period.
- With 2:18 remaining in the period, sophomore Jack Murtagh would take a slew footing penalty that ended up being a game misconduct.
- The Terriers would have to defend on the penalty kill for the next five minutes, and with a second remaining in the frame, Yegorov was called for a penalty.
- Initially viewed as a game misconduct for head butting, the call was changed to a two-minute minor for roughing, sending the Terriers to two full minutes of 5-on-3 defense.
- In those two minutes, Yegorov was outstanding, making four saves to keep the Warriors off the board.
- It took a McLaughlin score to push the lead back to 4-2, as Boisvert dug the puck out of the corner and found his fellow North Dakota transfer for a crucial goal at 15:46.
- In what turned out to be the game-winner, Brandon Svoboda chipped the puck forward to Harvey, who hurled it into the empty net with 2:15 remaining to make it 5-2.
- The Warriors would make the game close, scoring twice more—including once with the net left unattended—but the Terriers would close out the win and the sweep.
- Boisvert's four assists mark a career high in both points and assists.
- He is the first Terrier to record four assists in a game since Quinn Hutson accomplished the feat in an 8-2 win over Providence on March 6, 2025.
- Hutson has goals in three of his last four games and is on a six-game points streak.
- It is the third time in his two-year career he has a points streak of at least six games.
- McLaughlin (1g, 2a) now has 23 career multi-point games and is second on the team this season with 11 points.
- For the second time this season, the Terriers had exactly five different goal scorers.
- In six of their 11 games, the Terriers have notched at least four goals.
- BU will take a break from Hockey East action, heading to Quinnipiac on Saturday, Nov. 15 for a matchup with the Wildcats.
- Puck drop is set for 4 p.m.
