BUFFALO, N.Y. - Incoming freshman Xavier Villeneuve was one of several future Terriers to be selected on day two of the 2026 National Hockey League Draft Saturday at KeyBank Center.
Villeneuve was the second skater selected on Saturday morning, with the Chicago Blackhawks taking the dynamic defenseman with the 34th overall pick. Villeneuve will arrive at BU in the fall after spending the past three seasons with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the QMJHL. He averaged over a point per game in each of his last two campaigns with the Armada, totaling 38 points (6g, 32a) in 37 games this past season.
In addition to Villeneuve, two future Terriers from the U.S. National Team Development Program were also taken on Saturday. Defenseman Luke Schairer went to the St. Louis Blues in the third round (75th overall) while goaltender Brady Knowling was selected by the San Jose Sharks in the fourth round (127th overall). Both Schairer and Knowling are slated to join BU for the 2027-28 season.
The program's successful Saturday came after two Terriers were taken in Friday's first round. Incoming freshman Caleb Malhotra was picked third by the Vancouver Canucks and rising sophomore Tynan Lawrence was the 11th overall pick by the St. Louis Blues. BU has produced over 215 draft picks since 1969, with 30+ Terriers taken in the first three rounds since 2019.
