Men's Ice Hockey Defeats New Hampshire, 5-3
February 14, 2026 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON - Five different Terriers found the back of the net to help the Boston University men's ice hockey team skate past New Hampshire, 5-3, on Saturday night at Agganis Arena.
BU (14-15-2, 10-11-0 HE) never trailed against the Wildcats (12-15-1, 6-11-1 HEA), with sophomore Brandon Svoboda getting things started for the Terriers at 6:30 of the first period. UNH answered back at 11:23, but a pair of second-period goals from sophomore Cole Hutson and freshman Jack Murtagh gave BU a 3-1 lead after two periods. Junior Jack Harvey then scored just 1:21 into the third period put the game out of reach. The Wildcats added a pair of goals in the final five minutes, but sophomore Cole Eiserman's empty-netter held off a UNH comeback.
In addition to their goals, Svoboda, Hutson, Murtagh, and Eiserman each added one assist apiece. Junior captain Gavin McCarthy secured a pair of helpers while freshman Conrad Fondrk, sophomore Sacha Boisvert and sophomore Kamil Bednarik also recorded one assist apiece.
Junior goaltender Max Lacroix turned away 24 of the 27 shots he faced, including 13 saves in the final frame, to earn his first win of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Svoboda struck first for the Terriers at 6:30 of the opening period. Boisvert slung the rubber along the blue line to McCarthy for a blast from the point, which was double deflected by Fondrk and Svoboda past Kyle Chauvette (29 saves).
- The home team nearly doubled its score at 8:32. Set up by Hutson, McLaughlin floated the puck through the blue paint but was denied by the right post.
- UNH evened the score, 1-1, at 11:23 of the first frame.
- Harvey came close and drew iron with 2:54 remaining. McLaughlin squeezed a Wildcat along the boards, allowing Eiserman to strip the puck and set up Harvey in the left circle.
- BU led in shots on net, 16-5, through the first 20 minutes of play.
- The Terriers continued their momentum to start the second stanza, taking a 2-1 lead at 2:29. Off a BU dump-in, Svoboda battled for possession and passed off the puck to Murtagh, who found a wide-open Hutson crashing the net. The defenseman made no mistake, ringing the rubber off both pipes and across the goal line.
- Murtagh extended the Terriers' lead to 3-1 at 12:13. The Wildcats turned over the puck in their offensive zone and Murtagh turned on the jets, going end-to-end and rocketing the puck into the top-right corner of the net.
- Lacroix staved off two grade-A chances with saves off an odd-man rush at 8:23 and a breakaway attempt at 14:21.
- BU edged the Wildcats, 10-9, in shots on target in the second period.
- Harvey extended the Terriers' lead to 4-1 at 1:21 of the final frame on a nifty 2-on-1. Eiserman pulled the puck through his legs to evade a UNH defender and find Harvey ready for a top-shelf snipe.
- The pair of BU forwards nearly connected for a second tally at 1:34, this time Eiserman lighting the lamp, but the goal was overturned after New Hampshire successfully challenged that the play was offside.
- The Wildcats netted an even-strength goal at 15:31 and a power-play tally at 16:26 to make it a one-goal game.
- However, Eiserman's empty-netter with 17 seconds remaining closed out the night.
- The Terriers led in shots on net, 34-27, through 60 minutes.
