Men's Tennis to Open Dual Season with SNHU and Siena Sunday at the TTC

BOSTON – Featuring six newcomers, the Boston University men's tennis team will open the dual season with a four-match homestand at the Track & Tennis Center on Sunday against Southern New Hampshire and Siena. The doubleheader will begin at 10 a.m. with doubles action.
Last season, the Terriers reached the Patriot League tournament semifinals for the third time in four years. They return junior and All-PL second team member Satyajit Simhadri, who claimed 10 wins at No. 1 doubles and a 3-3 record at No. 2 singles. Sophomores Marc Sable and J.P. Avila are also back after combining for 29 singles victories.Consisting of five Terriers, the freshman class ranked 17th in the TennisRecruiting.com Mid-Major poll this past summer ahead of No. 24 Navy. They are joined by Oregon transfer Fabian Soemarno.
Freshman Owen Lu led BU during the fall schedule with 10 singles victories, one ahead of Sable. Freshmen David Bogatin and Pete Siozios also had strong performances with eight wins apiece. On the doubles side, numerous combinations were tried during the fall with Avila and Lu combining for a team-high five victories.
BU last season went 4-2 at the TTC with 7-0 sweeps over SNHU and Siena. After hosting the two opponents again on Sunday, they will also host St. Francis Brooklyn and Fairfield a week later on Feb. 4.
The Penmen enter Sunday's contest with a 3-0 record after claiming wins in the fall against Saint Michael's, Saint Anselm and Colby-Sawyer by a combined score of 25-2 in which each doubles match counted as one point apiece. The Saints went 3-1 in the fall, posting wins over St. Franics Brooklyn (6-1), Holy Cross (7-0) and Rider (6-1) before suffering a 4-1 loss at Wagner.
