Doggett, Janes Collect Patriot League Weekly Honors
October 15, 2018 | Field Hockey
CENTER VALLEY, Pa. - After helping the No. 24 Boston University field hockey team remain undefeated in Patriot League play with a double-overtime victory at Bucknell, senior Allie Doggett and freshman Rebecca Janes have been named the conference's Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. It was announced by the league office on Monday.
In a rematch of last season's Patriot League title game, the Terriers left Lewisburg with a 3-2 win over the Bison after Doggett scored the double-overtime winner in the 92nd minute of play. Janes scored BU's second goal to give the visitors a 2-1 lead in the 18th minute.
Bucknell scored the game-tying goal with a corner goal at 62:22 and the teams played a scoreless first overtime. Early in the second overtime, Doggett dribbled in along the right end line before a defender appeared to break up the scoring chance. However, Doggett quickly got her stick on the deflected ball and elevated over the stick of the Bison goalkeeper and into the cage to end the contest. It was the third goal of the year for the co-captain, who played a big role on the defensive end to hold the Bison to three corners for the entire game and just one shot after regulation.
Janes scored her goal off a corner, punching in a redirected pass from sophomore Maggie New to break a 1-1 tie. It was her second goal of the season on as many shots.
This is the first weekly honor of Doggett's career while it marks Janes' second Rookie of the Week accolade this season.
