Men's Basketball Cruises to 94-57 Win over Emerson

BOSTON – Boosted by 12 3-pointers and freshman Jack Hemphill's first-career double-double, the Boston University men's basketball team rolled to a 94-57 win over Emerson on Sunday afternoon at Case Gym.
Hemphill contributed two of the 3-pointers to finish with 14 points alongside classmate Fletcher Tynen while posting a game-high 12 points to help the Terriers improve to 2-1 on the season. Freshman Jordan Guest led BU with 15 points, as Jack O'Connor recorded a game-high 22 points in the Lions' (0-1) season opener.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Sophomore Javante McCoy, Tynen and senior Kamali Chambers opened the game with three straight bombs to give BU the lead for good.
- Freshman Garrett's Pascoe basket from behind the arc at 7:25 pushed BU's advantage beyond 20 points for the first time at 42-21.
- The Terriers scored the final eight points of the half to grab a commanding 57-30 halftime lead and shot a stifling 23-of-36 (.639) FG and 9-of-14 (.643) 3FG through the first 20 minutes of action.
- Pascoe followed up on sophomore Andrew Petcash's trey with a layup and free throw at 17:43 to put the lead (65-34) over 30 points for the rest of the game.
- All 10 Terriers who saw action today scored at least five points with seven hauling in at least three rebounds.
- Both juniors Tyler Scanlon and Max Mahoney were held out for precautionary measures since BU battled America East preseason favorite Vermont on Friday and will start a six-game road trip on Wednesday ... Sophomore and 2018 All-PL Rookie Team honoree Walter Whyte though has yet to see action this season due to injury.
- Hemphill became the first Terrier this season and fourth overall on the active roster to record a double-double alongside Mahoney, Scanlon and Whyte.
- Senior Kamali Chambers and Tynen earned their first starts of the year with Chambers totaling five points and a career-high five rebounds in 27 minutes of action.
- BU finished the game 38-of-71 (.535) FG and 12--of-27 (.444) 3FG while holding Emerson to 22-of-68 (.324) FG and 5-of-22 (.227) 3FG.
- McCoy and redshirt-freshman Alex Vilarino combined for 11 assists against two turnovers with 16 points and eight rebounds.
- The Terriers and the Lions met for the first time in program history, as BU faced a member of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for the second consecutive year following last seaosn's 83-48 win over Wheaton College.
- The Terriers will embark on a six-game road trip, its longest since 2004, by first visiting former America East rival, Albany, on Wednesday (Nov. 14) with a 7:30 p.m. tip.
- Finishing last season with a 22-10 record, the Great Danes snapped a 10-game losing streak to BU, 88-74, at Case Gym.
- BU will visit SEFCU Arena for the first time since claiming an 85-80 win on Jan. 23, 2013.
