November 16, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
Updated Game Notes (Saturday)
BOSTON – The Boston University men's ice hockey team scored on three of its final four power plays, capped by sophomore David Farrance's game winner with 1:11 left in regulation, to post a 3-2 victory over Maine in the opener of a weekend series on Friday evening at Agganis Arena.
The Terriers picked up their third straight win to extend their unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) and move to 3-4-1 on the year with a 3-2-1 Hockey East mark. The Black Bears fell to 3-5-1 overall and 1-3-1 in Hockey East play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maine scored the only goal in the first 37 minutes of play as Eduards Tralmaks broke up a clearing attempt before wristing a shot from the right circle inside the far post at 14:32 of the opening period.
- BU got back-to-back power plays late in the middle stanza and cashed in on both of them to take a 2-1 lead.
- Senior Bobo Carpenter pounced on a rebound in the left circle and found the back of the net at 17:17 of the second.
- Less than two minutes later on another man advantage, freshman Joel Farabee found the back of the net from the foot of the right circle to give the Terriers a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.
- The Black Bears would draw even, however, as a power-play wrister from the slot by Tim Doherty made it a 2-2 affair with 5:51 left in regulation.
- The decisive power play was a result of sophomore Shane Bowers drawing a tripping call in the low slot with 1:48 left in regulation.
- Farrance's game-winner came from the center point as the sophomore's shot got through traffic before hitting the top right corner of the net at 18:49 of the third.
