Terriers Close 2018 with 4-1 Win over Dartmouth
December 14, 2018 | Men's Ice Hockey
BOSTON – The Boston University men's ice hockey team closed out the first half of its season with a 4-1 home victory over Dartmouth on Friday evening at Agganis Arena.
Junior Patrick Harper scored the game-winning goal while classmate Jake Oettinger turned in a 33-save performance. Sophomores Cam Crotty and Ty Amonte added goals and freshman Joel Farabee sealed it with an empty-netter.
The Terriers will enter 2019 with a record of 6-8-2 while the Big Green falls to 4-6-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Crotty, who started the day across the continent in British Columbia, opened the scoring with a nifty move through the right circle to the crease, where he deposited a backhand to the back of the net just 4:52 into the contest.
- Junior Patrick Curry set up Crotty and freshman Jack DeBoer picked up the secondary assist for his first collegiate point.
- Just past the midpoint of the game, Dartmouth got an equalizer off a rush as Kevan Kilistoff sent home a pass from Cam Strong at the 10:06 mark of the second period.
- The game-winner came off a turnover as Harper used his body to block a pass in the BU zone before skating in all alone and tucking in a shot past Dartmouth netminder Adrian Clark at the left post just 1:04 after the Big Green got on the board.
- Harper helped provide an insurance goal when he set up Amonte for a one-timer off a 2-on-1 with 3:22 left in regulation.
- With Clark pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Farabee capped the scoring with 1:23 to play when he won a race to the puck along the right side following a pass from graduate student Max Willman and knocked it into the empty net.
GAME NOTES
- Crotty spent the week at Canada's World Junior Selection Camp and was among the cuts to the roster on Thursday evening.
- Dartmouth held a 34-22 shot advantage and got 18 saves from Clark.
- Each team went 0-for-3 on the power play.
- In addition to DeBoer earning his first point as a Terrier, classmate Matthew Quercia did the same by picking up a helper on Farabee's tally.
- Sophomore David Farrance earned his eighth assist of the season on Amonte's goal.
- Crotty and Willman tied for the game high with plus-3 rating.
- Farrance, Quercia and junior Dante Fabbro each blocked three shots.
UP NEXT
- Following a 25-day for finals and the holidays, the Terriers will return to action on Tuesday, Jan. 8, when they make the shortest trip in college hockey to face Harvard.
- Game time is set for 7 p.m.
