No. 14 Princeton Upends Terriers, 1-0

BOSTON – Contending at Nickerson Field for its home opener against No. 14 Princeton, the Boston University women's soccer team outshot the Tigers, 12-7, but Princeton's Mimi Asom delivered the lone score of the game in the 52nd minute to hand the Terriers a 1-0 defeat Sunday afternoon.

- Anna Heilferty drilled a rocket that bounced off the crossbar in the sixth minute, and Dorrie Varley-Barrett nearly put away the rebound, but Princeton's keeper recovered in time for the save.
- The Terriers would have another quality look in the 13th minute, as McKenna Doyle lofted a header towards the goal line, but once again, the crossbar proved to be BU's nemesis.
- Morgan Messner was tested with back-to-back shots by the Tigers in the 25th minute and held her post to keep the game scoreless.
- BU dominated the first half offensively, posting a 10-4 command in shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal through the first 45 minutes.
- Princeton applied heavy pressure to start the second half before Mimi Asom corralled a throw-in, turned and delivered a strike inside the back left post to put the Tigers on the board.
- Anna Heilferty registered BU's first shot of the second half in the 73rd minute, missing high on a free kick from 25 yards out.
- BU wouldn't get another shot off until the final two minutes of the game, as Taylor Kofton sent a free kick from just outside the box that landed safely in the hands of Princeton's keeper.
- BU fired on all cylinders in the first half, landing six of its 10 shots on frame, while two of its first four shots hit the crossbar.
- Nine different Terriers recorded at least one shot, while six put shots on frame.
- Messner made her first career start in net, registering all three of saves in the first half within a seven-minute span.
- Sunday marked the third straight matchup between the Terriers and Tigers that has resulted in a one-goal game.
- The Terriers will stay in Boston as they head down the street to take on Northeastern on Thursday, Aug. 30, at 6 p.m.
