All three successful shot attempts occurred outside the box with the Bears (4-3-0) scoring the game winner at 82:33, four minutes following Petursson's equalizer. With their two-game home win streak snapped, the Terriers drop to 2-5-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams had four shots apiece in the first half, but sophomore William Bonnelyche had the only save at 26:52 after Brown's Derek Waleffe nailed the right post in the 17th minute.
- The Terriers committed a costly penalty just outside their box at the top right corner, as Matthew Chow curled the free kick inside the near post for the 1-0 lead at 59:43.
- Both junior Mana Chavali and sophomore Toti Knutsson forced Brown's Maxwell Waldau to make saves over the next 15 minutes, as the Terriers controlled possession looking to get on the scoreboard.
- Petursson went wide at 74:04 and eventually found the back of the net by collecting a quick pass from senior T.J. Butzke and blasting a 25-yard shot over the leaping keeper.
- The deadlock did not last long, as Waleffe kicked a low bouncing shot past Bonnelyche toward the left post in the 83rd minute for what proved to be the game winner.
- BU sent multiple dangerous crosses into Brown's box, but the Bears were able to get the needed clears to claim the win.
- Petursson became the third Terrier this season to record multiple goals this season and is now second on the team with six points (2g,2a).
- Butzke is now tied with Knutsson for the team lead in assists at three apiece.
- The Terriers attempted all three corners in the game and finished with a 12-9 advantage in shots.
- Brown extended its lead in the all-time series to 25-15-4, having won the last two contests by one-goal apiece after BU pulled out a 2-0 home victory in 2016.
- The Terriers will resume Patriot League action by hosting Lehigh on Saturday (Sept. 29) at 4 p.m. after the BU women host Lafayette at 1 p.m.
- BU is 4-2-0 against the Mountain Hawks after winning last year's road matchup, 2-0, and is 1-1-0 at Nickerson Field in the series.
