BURLINGTON, Vt. - Junior Chad Krys scored the game's lone goal on an empty-netter in overtime to give the Boston University men's ice hockey team a win in its series opener at Vermont on Friday evening at Gutterson Fieldhouse.

Junior Jake Oettinger stopped all 29 shots he faced for his second consecutive shutout.

BU improves to 12-15-3 on the year and 10-8-2 in Hockey East play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Vermont needed two points to keep its slim Hockey East playoff hopes alive and pulled goaltender Stefanos Lekkas after 64:30 of scoreless action.
Following a UVM miscue, Krys found the middle of the net from the neutral zone with 16 seconds left in overtime to end the game.
Lekkas was incredible all night for the Catamounts, making several big saves, including an improbable stop at the left doorstep on a bid by freshman Joel Farabee on a 2-on-1 with 6:44 left in regulation.

GAME NOTES

Lekkas stopped all 43 shots he faced.
Oettinger has three shutouts in his past four games against the Catamounts and has stopped 121 of the past 122 UVM shots he has faced.
BU was 16 seconds away from its second scoreless draw of the season.
The Terriers' penalty kill was a perfect 3-for-3 and has now successfully killed off 41 of its opponents' past 42 power plays.
Junior Dante Fabbro had a game-high four blocked shots.
BU held a 44-29 shot advantage.
