February 7, 2020 | Women's Tennis
MATCH #5 INFORMATION
Teams: BU (3-1) vs. Rhode Island (0-2)
Date & Time: Saturday, Feb. 8 | 3 p.m.
Venue: Watertown, Mass. | Mount Auburn Club
BOSTON – Looking for its third straight win at the Mount Auburn Club, the Boston University women's tennis team will host Rhode Island Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m..
BU opened its season with three victories, sweeping Binghamton and Bryant at home before topping Cornell, 4-3. However, last Sunday, 2019 NCAA second round participant Syracuse bested BU, 6-1, largely due to claiming five singles points in straight sets.
Freshman and three-time Patriot League Player of the Week Erica Di Battista earned the Terriers' lone point against Syracuse with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over then-No. 64 Guzal Yusupova. The impressive win put her at No. 100 in the ITA's singles rankings, as she became the first since Johanna Hyoty (No. 122 singles) in 2014-15 to claim a national ranking. Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis and Jessi Linero teamed together for a No. 67 ranking on the doubles side in 2012-13.
While Di Battista is 4-0 at No. 1 singles in 2020, freshman Steph Nguyen is a perfect 3-0 with two wins at line 5. Both juniors Emily Kim (#3) and Lily Burchell (#4-6) also have three wins apiece so far.
Rhode Island is 0-2 this season, having fallen to BC and Rutgers by identical scores of 7-0. BU won last year's meeting, 5-2.
