BOSTON - The No. 19 Boston University men's ice hockey team fell to UMass Lowell, 3-0, on Friday night at Agganis Arena.
Friday was a special night at Agganis as BU honored Travis Roy on the one-year anniversary of his passing. The team wore special jerseys during pregame warmups with Roy's name and number on them, and Roy's parents were on-hand for a pregame ceremony that featured a video tribute and a 24-second moment of silence.
The Terriers outshot the River Hawks, 29-22, but UMass Lowell capitalized on its opportunities with a breakaway goal in the first period followed by a pair of markers in the second stanza.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lowell's first goal came at the 7:49 mark of the opening frame. Owen Savory kicked aside an Alex Vlasic chance, and the rebound slid all the way to the BU blue line, where it was picked up by Lee and taken in alone for the goal.
- BU had three great chances to score midway through the second period when junior Domenick Fensore forced a save from Savory after a great rush into the zone. Senior Ty Amonte and sophomore Dylan Peterson both followed up with shots on target, but Savory was equal to the task each time.
- Moments after that sequence, Lee scored his second goal of the contest before Reid Stefanson added a third goal with 2:09 to play in the stanza.
- BU pulled sophomore goaltender Drew Commesso (19 saves) in favor of an extra attacker late in the third period, but the Terriers were unable to break through.
GAME NOTES
- Both teams were 0-for-3 on the power play.
- Friday marked the first time that BU was held scoreless since Nov. 30, 2019, when the Terriers lost to Cornell, 2-0, at Red Hot Hockey.
- Junior Wilmer Skoog's point streak was snapped at four games.
UP NEXT
