Casey Thompson and junior
Rachel Borzymowski of the Boston University field hockey team were among 11 standouts named to the 2021 Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced by the league office on Thursday.
This is this third straight season that Thompson has been an Academic All-PL honoree while Borzymowski, who earned the accolade last year, joins Thompson as the only Terriers to receive the honor multiple years.
To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor. These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League field hockey sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
Thompson turned in a strong season with a team-best six assists for the Terriers. The three-year starter has 17 points (3g, 11a) in 61 career games at BU. She currently has a 3.80 cumulative grade-point average in the Questrom School of Business as she works towards a bachelor's degree in business administration & management.
One of the top backs in the Patriot League, Borzymowski is coming off a season in which she garnered Second Team All-Patriot League honors. Her six defensive saves are the most in the PL and rank tied for third nationally. She recorded her first career goal and assist this season and she has a 3.94 culumlative GPA as a biology major in the College of Arts & Sciences.
